Whatever happened to the Wario Land Series?

I recently found Wario Land  4 in an attic and that got me thinking, whatever happened? Why is there no Wario Land 5? It's been over 14 years and nothing. Chibi Robo gets it's own platforming game for no reason, yet Wario just sits shelved?

It had "spiritual successors" on other systems though, right? Wasn't there another Wario Land platformer for Gamecube and then there was Wario Land "Shake It" for the Wii.

The DS had that one where he wore different disguises...I just figured those were the sequels.

 
I don't count Wario World because it's 3D and was still a decade ago.

However I stopped gaming after the GC and GBA era so I didn't know about the Wii game, that looks very cool.

Still wish we would get a Wario Land for the 3DS.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot that Wario used to have his own platformers.  I guess the popularity from his main series died down over the generations, either that or Nintendo wanted to just focus on the WarioWare series. 

 
Master of Disguised tanked and Shake It! just sold average.  Nintendo is probably looking for the right 'gimmick' to justify another entry in the series.
