Quick question about adding more HD space on an Xbox One

I bought a new 500GB XB1 yesterday, and I plan on buying a 4TB HD from Best Buy on Black Friday, this one specifically:

"WD - My Book 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive" (it will be $99 from its original $189)

How does adding a new HD work? Since I just bought my XB1, should I wait until I get this new HD before I start to download games to my current 500GB? Or would I be able to use both in conjunction with each other and I can go ahead and start downloading stuff to my 500GB HD?

Thanks!!!

I just picked up that same 4tb WD from frys yesterday for $98. I plugged it in and it formatted it quickly. I am currently moving over data from my previous 1tb so I have both of them hooked up and working fine. I plan on only using the 4tb once everything is moved over.

Go big or go home. I also had the WD 4TB. Didn't like it and it also was extremely slow. Opted to get a Seagate instead, specifically the one above. Glad I did plus I will never run out of space.

Plug it in, wait for it to be recognized by the XBOX ONE.

Format it

Download away
Ugh, no thanks given Seagate's record on HDDs.

I have used both WD and Seagate for years. I personally prefer Seagate. I have had WD drives fail on more than one occasion, and the Samsung drives in the Seagate drives I have never had an issue with. Sony uses the same Samsung drive in the PS4 that seagate uses in their hard drives in fact. Plus, Seagate is cheaper and if it offers the same if not better performance, why not? All up to the buyer though.

It's because they buy it in bulk and Seagate knows it has to make a more reliable run or lose that contract.
