I have a feeling I know the answer to this already, but anyone have any luck with a Best Buy "Geek Squad Refurbished" device? Based on what I'm seeing, it sounds like they take a return, physically inspect it and put it in a generic box, despite claims of more serious inspection. They also have kind of a dinky warranty (90 days) which doesn't impress me either. I'm probably going to pass, as ordering a refurb from the manufacturer gives a year warranty and I know the product is inspected, though they're out of stock currently and $30 more. Probably worth waiting. Just curious for future knowledge.

I don't have experience with Geek Squad refurbs, but I recently ordered a "Open Box" item from them in Excellent condition.  It was relatively low risk (a monitor). It came in the original box with almost all the accessories.  Missing part of the power cord and maybe the DVI cord, but it came with the HDMI cord which is what I was using and so I was fine with that. Called CS about the missing power cord and it took 3-4 people but finally got one who tried to fix the issue by ordering me the missing part.  He couldn't so he gave me a $10 GC which was fine by me.

Monitor looked to have been a display maybe, had a whole bunch of smudges on the front, but cleaned off fine.  Seems to be working fine for me.  This one claims to come with full manufacturer's warranty so another benefit there.  Probably wouldn't do it again.  I assume Geek Squad refurbs probably go through more detailed review/inspection but not sure I would trust them for something much more complex or that someone could have messed up and returned.

Ordered a Geek Squad refurb laptop for my wife one time, and the speakers crapped out within a couple days. Had to return it to the store. That's my only experience with them.
