From Leaptrade:

Hi All,

We put out an exciting new update to Leaptrade today.  In addition to some little changes and fixes, we have one big new enhancement to share:

New Enhancement:  Set your own price!

We’ve been receiving a lot of great feedback over the last year and at the top of the list has been users wanting to set their own price.  We are bringing that feature to you guys today.  We’ve implemented this in a way that maintains the ease of use of Leaptrade while allowing for the flexibility and the benefits that come with listing games for the price you choose.

What’s changing?

You can now set your own price within the range we set for min and max prices.  So, if you are looking to price your FIFA 2007 at $60 you’re out of luck, you’ll still have to make a price change request if our Market Price needs to be changed.  But if you feel like our Market Price is a little too high or too low, no problem, you can sell your game for the price that makes the most sense for you.

When you set a price that’s different than the Market Price, we won’t automatically update your price as the game price changes in the used market.  The only time we’ll update the price for you is if the max price for your game moves lower than the price you set.  In that case we’ll set your price to the new max price.  This along with conservative max prices will keep the pricing reasonable so you won’t have games that will never sell because they are priced way too high.

Being able to set your own price also means that when you are buying a game you’ll get the lowest priced copy for the condition you select.  What this means is that price will play a factor in what position your are in line to sell your game.

We’ve also listened to your feedback and are now updating the Disc Only Market Prices to be slightly lower than Disc + Case or Full Package Market Prices.  Just like with all game conditions you can set your own price here as well.

We are also allowing you to edit your trades, so you can change the price and condition after you’ve listed your game for sale.

What’s staying the same?

We will still be maintaining our Leaptrade Market Price just like always, so if you list your game at the Market Price, you’ll get the same easy Leaptrade experience as you do now.  We’ll update the price for you as the Market Price changes so you’ll always know you’re getting a fair price for your game.  Selling at the Market Price will be exactly the same as it was before.

What prices will you see when you are browsing or searching for games?

If there are no copies for sale for a particular game, we’ll show the Disc + Case and Full Package Leaptrade Market Price for that game.  However, if there are copies available for sale, we’ll show the lowest price copy that’s available.  So you may see the game prices changing more often, but that will be normal as people list their games for sale at different prices.

We’ve been looking forward to this update for a while now. It’ll make trading easier and more flexible for everyone.  This will be the best of both worlds:

  • For those that want to sell games and have us take care of all the pricing, just list your games at the Market Price and we’ll take care of the rest.
  • For those that are looking to make a quick sale, price your games below the Market Price, if you’re the lowest price, your copy will be the first one to sell.
  • And if you are looking to sell your new hot game that just came out, now you can list it for the price that will be high enough to make you part with it.

What’s Next?

We’re looking forward to your feedback on how this new set your own pricing feature is working out for you.  Now that you have the option to set your own price, if you choose to set it different than the Market Price you’ll also need to maintain that price as your game goes up and down in value.  We want to make that process as quick and easy as we can, so we already have some plans in the works for some notifications and suggestions to help you maintain good prices that will help you sell your games.
