Seinfeld: The Complete Series 2015 Gift Set @ Amazon - 49.99

Damn good price indeed, too bad i bought this 2 summers ago for $49.99 or $59.99 i cant remember but if a blu ray transfer would be announced I'd double dip.

Guys just be aware the packaging for the discs is really, really shitty. We're talking Smallville and Indiana Jones Trilogy levels of shittiness here. It's not a question of "if" the discs will be scratched the first time you watch them, it's a question of how badly. All my discs played but I got 4 (out of 33) that skipped pretty badly..... between this set and Smallville I have learned to never buy anything with discs in cardboard if you expect it to actually work.

Are you sure you bought this though? I know the DVD's are the same that have been out forever, but isn't the SWAG new? If anybody buys this I'd be curious to hear any thoughts about that.

Well, the diner and the puffy shirt swag were included in special editions of the original DVD releases several years ago, so they're not really new, they're just newly packaged together with the playing cards and complete series DVD set.

No it wasn't this particular set with all the new goodies it was the same box set just without the extras.

Great deal, but they need to fix the case. Hulu Plus has the complete series, so I'm just going to wait and hopefully they'll release a version with a case that won't scratch up your discs at some point.

I want this, but I'm afraid to buy this because of the packaging.  I don't want to risk have scratched discs that won't play and from the looks of the reviews online, it seems to be a pain in the butt in getting replacements.  :(

Cardboard sleeves are the single worst packaging method available, I can't believe companies still do this. I will never buy a set like this, and if I receive one unknowingly, it goes right back, because without even looking you can guarantee half the discs will already be scratched.

I see people complain about spindle packaging on budget sets, but that's a DREAM compared to the cardboard sleeves. I've actually had very few problems with spindle sets. Even the little paper sleeves with the cellophane window are much better. At worst you can cobble together a full set from an original purchase and a replacement, but with the cardboard there is no hope of that.

What is keeping them from a HD release?  These were shot on film and look amazing in HD.

Why would I pay for DVD versions when the video quality of the ones they show on TBS blow it away?

I bought this box set. A lot of paranoia about the scratches. A few came in with surface level scratches but they all worked. Zimmy to ans your question...not a whole lot except for the fact that certain bits or punchlines are cut out of the TBS/TNT reruns to add commercials. Also, at some times of the day the show could be played at few more frames fast to add commercials. You can read up on the syndication changes. Seinfeld was actually shot in 16X9ish aspect ratio so on the reruns some of the top is cropped but you see more of the sides of the shot. Seinfeld was one of the few shows of the 90s remastered for HD and done right. Very few sense are pan and scanned to look bad. Honestly, I'd kill for an HD release but I think that hulu deal put an end to that. I mostly got the disks to see the show the way it was made to be seen.

Are they HD on Hulu?
I heard Sony (I think) paid a lot to create hd masters for the show, I expected an eventual release.
