Anyone else exited about the Oculus Rift?

CAGiversary!
Pre orders are set to start any day now and I can't wait to order. It will be bundled with Luckys tale and Eve Valkyrie. Lots of people are hoping for a $350 starting price, but I am guessing around $500.  I just need to update my video card and I am set.  Anyone else going to Pre Order?

No one should ever Pre-order for anything in this world. I think its going to be an OK intro into 3D gaming but from my few times using it's something that warrants the current price tag. When it's $100 or under - I will give it a shot.

Which version of the Rift did you use? I temporarily had the DK2, but there wasn't much software that would work so I sold it. I think the price is going to be close to $500, so you could be in for a long wait. If I try it and don't like it, I will just sell it on eBay and get most of my money back so I think it's worth the gamble.

I tried the one they had @ the MoMA and @ Comic Con in NYC. I don't remember which one they used. I played a fly through of TF2 2fort and a room with a piano in both session. Waiting is not a big deal for me - I'm very patient. While I love tech, I believe all tech has a set price limit by which I will participate in it.

Oculus finally announced pre orders are opening Jan. 6th 8 am psm.  Still have not given the price point or release date.  They are probably waiting to see what Sony does on the 5th at CES.

I couldn't be less excited for any of this VR stuff. There are so many companies trying to shoehorn themselves into the market. I'll wait five years and buy whatever survives as the one to get.

The price was announced recently, and the internet appears to be reeling from the sticker-shock. At $600, there is justification for the reaction. It is higher than many consumers expected. At the same time, quite a few analysts consider the price to either be right in line with their expectations, or lower than they expected.

A major part of the whiplash over this announcement is the expectations that were set by the Oculus Rift's initial Kickstarter campaign. The focus of that campaign was pitching the Rift as an affordable VR solution. The push of the Rift was to produce a VR headset that a much broader audience could afford and enjoy. A $600 price-tag seems at odds with that vision.

Well I pre ordered a Rift and can't wait to get it.  I was shocked at the price tag, but I don't see the Vive being any cheaper and the Playstation VR will be a watered down experience from what hear.

I have a question. When you are wearing the Rift, how bad are the black areas around the peripherals of your vision? Like how far away does the screen look like it is? Is it like walking around with blinders on?

I read the Star VR has 210 degree field of view allowing you to look around with your eyes, unfortunately I don't think there will be many if any games that support it nor does it have a release date.

Upon returning from GDC this year where a large focus was on VR, I'm not excited for it. I prefer games and media be an extension of me while playing and less interactive physically. VR is hugely distracting in that I need to wave about to use it and meanwhile is disconnected from your legs while running or moving. As far as tech demos go, I get the whole thrill of feeling your stomach lurch while looking down a mountain cliff or rollercoaster as it crests, but I honestly get the same sensation (just less intense) from normal play if I'm already immersed.

This tech could have uses for the disabled but otherwise I can't see VR really taking off. And if it does, well, that's a much bigger can of worms we're not ready for.

It's hard for me to describe. I would compare it to looking out a window, you can see the edge of the screen but it's not very noticeable while playing a game. I had the dk2 rift for a short time and only tried the roller coaster app and a few lower budget games. I imagine the next generation VR headsets will be similar to Star VR with a field of view of 210 degrees and much higher resolution but the cost is too high and video processing capabilities aren't there yet. I have the Vive and Rift on pre order and I will let you know what I think when they arrive.

I just got my CV1 today... and I'm enjoying it. Never tried any of the previous dev kits, though I do have a Gear VR. I'm enjoying the games, though there isn't a lot on the store at the moment that I find appealing. Of course that'll change as time goes on. A lot of the short tech demos have made me literally smile or gasp in amazement.

I'm just happy to have my CV1, especially with how the shipping situation is going for almost everyone else. Guess I got "luckey".

Time to necro!

so touch is coming out end nov/early dec at 200$ putting it at parity with the vive. Been enjoying my cv1 for 1-2months now and excited to try out the new controls
