Recommendations for a good router

I had one back in the day similar to that one you linked and it worked flawlessly for 4-5 years. No problems. I just upgraded to a faster unit by a bigger brand as I upgraded my internet. Depending on what speed you are aiming for on wifi, it could work for you.

What did you upgrade to?  Is everyone pretty much still using 802.11 b/g/n  or has most people upgraded to wireless ac now?

I just mainly use netflix and minor gaming.

In my experience, you get what you pay for in a router, id stay away from a 20 dollar router.

That google on hub is cool tech, but most likely overkill for you, and its 200 dollars.

This is a really good router and wont break the bank, but will be tons better than a cheap router.

This site, which does some in depth reviews on stuff, picked it as the best router for most people.

It does depend. You say you're going to use Netflix, how are you watching it in the first place, ethernet or wifi? How big is your house? If you live in like a one floor house or small apartment, those expensive routers are overkill.

This is dependable and reliable: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WRT54G-Wireless-G-Router/dp/B00007KDVI and it still works fine for a lot of people. Plus you can pick this up cheap anywhere.

Of course there's nothing wrong with picking up a more powerful and newer router.

The modem is a great idea for anybody who wants cable service. Don't get stiffed with a $10+ fee every month, it definitely adds up.

Gigabit won't be cheap for quite a while. I'm paying $100 a month after taxes and fees for my service. It could be worse, considering those tv/internet/phone $100 deals are more like $150.

Somehow, I confused my modem with my router, but I have a Netgear N300. Not sure which particular model...probably not the gigabit one.

Baller spotted.

I'd have to recommend any of the Asus routers, such as the RT-N66U or the RT-AC68P.  I had the N66U for multiple years, first as a router, then moved to an access point when I went to the AC68P.  Now, the AC86P is working as my AP when I upgraded to an RT-AC3200 as my router.
