N3DS & N3DSXL

CAGiversary!
For some reason, these last days I've been wondering if getting a 3DS would be a good idea. As for now, I got a PS3, PS4, Vita, and I also got iOS devices and a Mac. Mainly one reason that makes me wonder if it's a good idea are those exclusive games, and the portability. But then, I get bored easily (barely use my Vita).

Been checking, and right now there's a New 3DS and a New 3DS XL. Both of them offer the same technology, and mainly the difference between them are:

  • The N3DS can use custom plates, the N3DSXL can't (but there are special versions).
  • The N3DSXL has +1 hour more battery than the N3DS.
  • The N3DS has a matte finish, while the N3DSXL is fingerprint magnet.
  • The N3DS is smaller, N3DSXL is bigger.
There's also an argument about some devices having an IPS screen, while others don't, and that it's sort of random (?)

Right now I'm leaning towards the N3DSXL, mainly because of the size (haven't used one yet, but the N3DS looks a lot smaller).

So, the question here is, for those of you that own both versions, and been using it for a while, which one you lean towards?

Is it worth buying the console?

Worth buying the console? If you are a fan of playing games, without a doubt! The 3ds library is fantastic, plus you can play all the DS games as well. Dude, you've just got an instant backlog! As far as N3ds vs the N3dsxl, to me, its a matter of preference. I prefer the bigger screen of the XL, its not better resolution or nothing, but then again, I dont really use it on the go. Usually just on the couch, bed or bathroom :)

I am kind of enamored by faceplate aspect of the N3ds, and MAY be picking one up just for that alone.

If you are a gamer, then yes. Has a great selection of games and can play ds games too. I got the Zelda 3ds XL and a brand new 3ds XL. Im still using the Zelda 3ds XL and I like it,but its too big for my hands. I was trying to off load the N3ds XL, but its difficult. U should barrow someone DSi or DSi xl to get the feel to see which is more comfortable for u.

I'd suggest at least waiting for the announcement about the NX around June.  Even if you don't want a NX, they may announce a 3DS price drop.

There's so much good content on the 3ds right now. Hand full of cool free to play games to tackle daily (all pokemon themed if you don't mind that), lots of options for customization of your menu, and the game library is so varied. I don't enjoy very heavy action games and it just so happens 3ds has plenty of games that are a lot more thoughtful and slow. Perfect for me!

I have both a MH N3DSXL and the ACNL Home Designer N3DS and an old ZLBW 3DSXL.

I switch back and forth between N3DS and N3DSXL.  I take the small one when I travel ( twice a year I travel for 1-2 months) and switch back to the XL when i'm home for a while.

I still use the old 3DS xl for street pass activity and it is painful to wait for games to load and saves to complete compared to both the N3DS and N3DSXL.

I love my faceplates and portability of the N3DS but also love the large screen for long play sessions on N3DSXL.  The battery life is better on the XL as well.

If I was always traveling, I might stick with the N3DS full time but I like the XL for home use.

I haven't purchased a Nintendo console since my Gamecube but I've had an itch for one lately and I decided to finally jump in.  I went ahead and got this one: http://www.gamestop.com/nintendo-3ds/consoles/nintendo-new-3ds-xl-monster-hunter-4-ultimate-edition-gamestop-exclusive-gamestop-premium-refurbished/128072 I really wanted some sort of a limited edition and all the Fire Emblem 3ds xl sold out all of a sudden.  I really look forward to a whole new library of games I have the opportunity for.

I also ordered The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as my first game.  That one brings me back to my n64 days.  It had to be first.
