The Pokemon franchise celebrates its 20-year anniversary this year, and as previously announced, fans will be able to get their hands on a special, Mythical Pokemon for free every month starting today.

February's offering is a level 100 Mew, which you can get by visiting your local GameStop and getting a code. This can then be redeemed in Pokemon X/Y or Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby, the four games that free Pokemon will be handed out for during this promotion.

Pokemon will be available from the beginning of each month until the 24th, either through GameStop or Nintendo. The codes being handed out by GameStop are only good for a limited time; those for Mew available need to be redeemed by May 31, 2016.

Mew makes for an appropriate first selection, being the first Mythical Pokemon from the original Pokemon Red and Blue (and not having been seen in the games in more than five years). You can see the full lineup that'll be available over the course of the year here; Celebi comes in March, Jirachi in April, and Darkrai in May.

Picked up 2 cards today at local GS.  Will pick up 2 more for my X/Y version ;)

 
I think someone posted that somewhere. But anyway, I went to mines and they said they dont have them yet. My friend went to his spot and said they ran out already.

 
Darn it, I was driving by a GameStop today after a visit to the bank and had some inept feeling to visit it. I'll just go visit them tomorrow and hope they have more. Too tired. Thanks for the heads up

Did not realize they were actually handing out physical codes however. That really REALLY sucks. So its essentially first come, first serve just to get foot traffic into gamestop. 

Seems like Nintendo caught on to the "homepass" method to get the nintendo zone distributions at home. What a real crap way to prevent everyone from obtaining these.

This is a really big step backwards, they should have just use the Gift distribution in the actual games. Thats why its there in the first place.

I see these codes going up on ebay in the next couple of days. (if they haven't already)

Sorry for the kids who won't be able to get these and actually want them once they're "out of stock."

Nintendo once again shows how archaic they are with distributions (of games in general) and promotions.

(Could also be Gamestop's fault, but nintendo had so many other methods/options for this distribution)

Went to a Gamestop in Chicago last night, and they gave me a card with a scratch off code. Because they were just handing them out for free, I immediately thought, "Wow, scalpers gonna go all in on this, lol."

And then I see this:

I wonder how many cards each Gamestop store gets? And if they're gone, are they gonna keep replenishing until the month is over or not?

Wow... my store had four big stacks of them. They gave me three cards since I have three compatible games (X, Y, and AS).

On my non-updated 2DS, I can roll back my game to collect Mew from the delivery girl as many times as I want, so if any of y'all want, I'd be happy to trade you a Mew. Just add my friend code and shoot me a PM with yours.

How can they have the stupid idea of giving out codes for this again? They run out too fast, and then people try to sell them. Just give them out over wifi, or Gamestop shouldn't be passing them out at all.

I'm honestly getting a bit tired of Nintendo's screwed up love affair with GameStop lately.

So it continues, Nintendo.  Your sick joke of never passing out Mews within 100 miles of me.  You've been doing this since I was 10. 

 
So I got an idea from a question KarasLegion asked me via PM...

I went ahead and extracted the Mew event Wondercard data from my save game and generated a QR code for it. If you've got a DS that hasn't been updated, you should be able to use it. I think it needs to be on a system version between 9 and 9.5.

This will do the same thing as inputting a code from the back of one of these cards; a new, unique, legit event Mew will be generated each time you do.

Just an fyi, only 4 of them this year will be from gamestop. The other 8 will be available through the internet. It just so happens that the 4 really good ones are the gamestop ones, Mew and Darkrai are the 2 my kids want the most. Might have to actually stop in at gamestop again

That's good. I couldn't understand why they weren't doing this for them. Odd that they wouldn't do them all that way, but at least most of them are.

 
Mythical Pokemon is hard to get.   I will get all 4 cards per character.  I have X/Y and both Omega Red & Saph.   When i sell my Game Cart I can tripple up the $$$$ with Rare Pokemon :) lol

 
Are these the actual Pokemon playing cards or is it just some code for the video game? My son just started playing the Pokemon card game with kids at his school. I know nothing about it.

I went to get a Mew code today and according to the GS employee, one code is good for four Mews (one in each X/Y/AS/OR). Can anyone confirm? I'd try it myself but I've only got Y. (Bad fan, I know.)

I have X if you want to pm me your code and test. I doubt it would work after redeeming on any version.

Yeah, I kind of doubt it too, but who knows? My sister's got X and OR so if it did work I was going to send along my code for her to use, but if not I don't want to get her hopes up.

Did this work? I'm wondering if I should be looking to get one or two cards. All the Gamestop stores in my area haven't gotten any Mew cards in yet. :whee:

I just used a code in X and it did not work in AS. It says the gift has already been received. 

My GS gave me four copies no problem. I have all four 3DS games. I pass about three to four other GS's so I'll most likely pick up more and drop a bunch of codes towards the end of the month.

 
Just went to gamestop and asked for 3. Showed them I have 6 games and the guy just pushed 6 cards to me.
He said tons were sent out to prevent the issues that happened last time they did this with garchomp and the others
 
I'm willing to swap a 14 Day Xbox Live Trial code for 2 Mew codes.  Shoot me a PM if you want to trade!

local store limited it to 1 per person which was extremely annoying when 4 games support the code and I like to keep one unscracthed to add to the pokemon collection, 2 trips later I got the cards I needed, why couldnt all the event be through nintendo network

 
I could've had 50 of these codes if I wanted.. most of the stores I've been to just left stacks on the counter. I have my two Mew plush, I'm happy. *hugs Mew*
