What sites are good for listing parts for builds? I can build it but I'm too busy to do research for parts since this type of build requires everything to work well together for silence and appearance. I'm looking to build a HTPC mostly to stream plex so it's not a frontend. But I do want to use it for Steam gaming or maybe streaming from my main desktop, but I'm trying to avoid a steam link. I want to it appear like any other HT piece of equipment in my media cabinet otherwise I could've just built a pc from spare parts I have lying around.

I have a AMD 6950 to put in it which might chug along on the newest games while I have a Nvidia 970 in my main desktop. Would it be better to stream over a wired LAN with the 970 or go direct with the 6950? Also, I assume streaming directly within steam is better than adding something in between like a steam link too?

Thanks for the links. Megazell isn't your thread old? It looks like 2010 was the last update.

When I google HTPC build, this link is the first one http://mymediaexperience.com/updated-htpc-recommendations/

I want to build with this requirements, steam box and htpc, but this link is from 2014 http://mymediaexperience.com/performance-htpc-guide/
The link I sent you to in CAG has been posted on as of 18 January 2016 - 03:37 PM

I looked @ your links - You should join the already ongoing CAG building thread - also - when building it comes down to this

1) What you want to do - Which I think you stated already

2) Budget

I build HTPCs all the time you can do it with a little as $80 or higher.

Update

I decided to use an old computer and installed Ubuntu 14.04 on it. It was a bit confusing at first since it was my first time using Linux but I slowly figured it out. I installed Plex and steam to stream from. I had the hardest time getting both to work the first time but I googled all the problems and it's just a hassle to enter code in the terminal hoping I enter the right stuff to fix them. Now I just have to test the Steam streaming to see if it's passable for me or if I should do a new HTPC build. It's on a wired connection so I might be good.
