Hey guys,

I'm looking to get a new TV for under $500. I have a nearly 6 year old 32" Samsung Tv which works great, but upgrading is always nice.

Max screen size I'm looking for is maybe 43"(anything above that is pushing it).

A lot of what I've read so far is the Vizio M43-C1 is by fat the best bang for the buck at $498 or so. We only watch movies and game on it; Smart features are not that huge of a deal for me.

Any other picks you would recommend?

wait until April. I think the new tv be coming out and tv from last year will begin to drop in price. Go with a Samsung.

I have a 40" sceptre x405bv, pretty good tv for $220, sound isn't that loud, but there ins't a lot of tv's with really good/loud sound. I bought a sceptre soundbar from amazon for $60 bucks and makes the sound a lot better. It's very bright a good for gaming. Not as good as a high end Samsung/LG tv. But at a 1/4 or 1/5 of the price.

They also have a 43" 4k version for $280

Or 50" 1080p version for $320 or 49" 4k version for $380.

I bought a 3 year warranty with mine which was like $30 bucks. Since electronics can be fickle and last forever or a year. The mass production curse.

You've got it right here. My 50" version is pretty amazing. Very crisp picture with high contrast levels and auto-adjusting black quadrants so you don't get that ugly backlit graying. Sound from the television itself is decent, but speakers are rear-mounted so you'll need to put it against a wall to echo the majority back to you. The television itself looks great, and the legs are situated on the sides for good stability. There's a slew of ports on the side for easy access, including optical, HDMI, USB, and Ethernet. I was using the side USB to watch movies off a hard drive, but it's only got codecs for mp4/mkv/avi up to x264 and divx. Lately I've been using the HDMI with my laptop and optical with my 7.1 surround sound receiver to get an impressive cinema experience. Seriously, I watched Spectre on it this past Monday and it was awesome. So vibrant.

Smart functionality works really well. Menus come up quick, and there's a large V button in the middle that pops up and overlay of your applications. It comes with Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, VUDU, Twitter, Facebook, and a few others that are the same programs Sony/Roku/Chromecast/Apple TV/etc use.
