Do you think these two games represent a new genre?

It depends. STREET FIGHTER VS MARVEL did not show a new genre but it showed how both can mix well ( ITS A BUTTON MASHING GAME OFCOURSE) 

If collaborative gaming is a new genre, then hands down on it.
