DS3 Controllers Not Charging Correctly?

I have two Dual Shock 3 controllers that I've had for quite a while now.

Just recently they stopped charging in anything except the console, before I'd hook it up to my laptop or MP3 Player charger, and they would charge up to full while I was asleep and the system was off.

Now, it only shows the controllers charging when they are plugged into the console and nothing else.

Any clue what's going on?

Maybe the drivers are outdated or something along those lines? That's the first thing I'd look into, maybe the drivers on your PC for the controllers are outdated and maybe need to be re-downloaded. That's just a guess on my part though, as I could be wrong.

Could be, since I am using Windows 10 now.

However it used to be you just plug the cord in and they'd draw power, even into a wall charger.. now they only will draw power directly from the system.

it could also be the usb cable
It could also be your computer has non standard usb ports,
or is not outputting enough power

@OP try disabling legacy usb or usb 1.0 in your bios, as long as that dosent knock out usb 2.0

Also if it's a bad cable Monoprice has amazing cables (excluding their standard usb micro) for even more amazing prices.
If you need a cable replacement get a usb-a to mini-b cable.
I only use the official controller cradle and have never had a problem.
