Quantum Break for X1 is $47.99 at Walmart

Ha, Walmart is testing 20% off market now I see. Now if only Target would try it out too to stack that 5% off red card bonus.

There may be large quantity discounts from suppliers to retailers.
Not for video games. He's right, as good as it is for the customer, the margins for the retailers on stuff like this are really terrible. Amazon can afford the loss in order to get more sales in volume.

From what I understand, $48 is pretty much wholesale cost of video games for retailers. The idea with Best Buy is to counter the lack of profit with money earned via membership fees and repeat customers. It encourages a gamer to shop with them since they will typically have the best deal, and while in the store may wind up buying other items, too. Then there are the folks who refuse to get a membership and will just pay full price each time.

All in all I imagine this has been a huge success for Best Buy, or else other retailers would not be copying them or otherwise matching them with various deals.

Hit on the head. $47.99 is pretty much at cost. By offering this, there's the profit from the membership fee and customer loyalty.

It was pre-orderable at this price as well. I think they're trying to compete with Amazon and Best Buy.

Poop... I DO want this but... The Division update is next week, as well as the open DOOM beta. Then the Gears beta. Then Overwatch beta. THEN DOOM release. Ugh. Thanks though.

My thoughts exactly. Amazon should be honoring the 20% off since it's still within the two weeks.
This is exactly what I came here to ask. So... it doesn't stack? Fah Q Amazon :(

edit: I went to the source

5.The game is already discounted, do I still get 20% off at checkout?

Yes, Prime members get at least 20% off list price on new physical video games during pre-order and two weeks after launch. If the game is discounted less than 20%, Prime members get the full 20% off at checkout. If the game is already discounted more than 20%, Prime customers get the lower price.
