Need Help with Laptop RAM

There's the hardware manual for my laptop.

I got 2x 8GB sticks that are the type that it supports. One goes in fine, but the other one would seem to have to go in upside down.  The diagram on page 44 of the PDF is accurate, but putting it in upside down so the slots line up is clearly not the correct way to do it.

I'm not sure what the lower/upper slot part is referring to because there's just the two slot opposite each other in the actual laptop.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

That is the way the slots are.

Here is the only way the other stick would go in with the pins lining up: http://i.imgur.com/7jCtUaf.jpg

Hmmm, I'm with you in that it seems odd, but I think that just might be the way it should go for this particular model. Check this picture:

Those RAM sticks look like they are inserted in the same way. Ignore the upper/lower part of the manual, that's for a variation of this model that has a more common RAM install/alignment. Have you booted it up to see if it reads both sticks fine?

If I insert it the way that I show in the second picture, it doesn't click in properly.  So it wouldn't be secured.

I guess there's a possibility they installed those slots wrong, but what keeps it from going in?  Is it a thickness/height thing?  Have you tried pushing it in at an angle with the memory stick sort of tilted and then once it goes in pushing it down to click in place?  Some laptop memory slots work that way.

That's the way it is supposed to work. And the side that I have a stick in works that way.

Putting it in upside down so it lines up though prevents it from clicking in like it is supposed to.
