I've been there with the passing out, right down smacking my face on some unknown object and waking up to my confused wife standing over me. I think vasovagal reponse is the term you guys were thinking of.

RE: Shipwreck's passing out while peeing in the middle of the night, I've also been there, but I think that is more due to getting up relatively quickly in the middle of the night, and seems more likely to affect you if you are tall or dehydrated.

That was a great show to listen to.

Cheapy, Sorry to hear about your bathroom mishap.  If you have seen a doctor I am sure they checked you out.  But it almost sounds like you have lower than normal blood pressure and you vasovagal out easier than most people.

I think what he was talking about was during the recording of the last show you said Mrs Cheapy knocked on the glass or something because she was locked out.  And you said it scared you to death.

Not reviewing the game is kind of a cop out I think.  If that is what you are paid to do, and if the game publisher gave you an early release copy free to review I think you owe it to them to review the game.

As for this whole PS4Neo.  I have to agree with Wombat here.  I do not see a lot of game companies going to the additional expense to produce 4K assets.  I am not an expert game maker but I am assuming that they create graphical assets and then use those in both the PS4 and Xbox 1 an PC games.  So the idea that they are going to create 4K assets for a very small subset of the console market seems unlikely.  That said you will probably see some first party games do it just to show case the ability (think Lair on the PS3 with motion controls).  Honestly I see this as simply a way to get a 4K movie player into your home so you can play 4K movies on it.  Maybe at the very end of this console’s life cycle will you see games in 4K but not anytime soon.

This whole Neo thing reminds me of the shit Sega would do in the 90's. 32X gave Genesis games "better color" for example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbQuWGb7510

It's funny that you mentioned Batman Hush.

Last weekend I was hanging out with my sister and she suggested that I read Batman Hush. I said "Does it tell his origin story?"   She said "I don't think so."  I opened to page one, saw the origin story and handed it back to her.

:)

Read Batman: Venom. Great story, they never mention his origin, and it tackles a social issue.

Wombat, there are two Comic Book Conventions in Manhattan. One is at March, the Big Apple Comic Con at the Penn Hotel. The other of course, is NYCC at Javitz. The guy who runs the Big Apple Comic Con also has a "Winter Con" at the Casino near the JFK airport. I agree with Shipwreck, you should go to the one at the Airplane Museum, since it's more convenient.

Wow, Shipwreck's daughter has some great eyes. Combine it with Wombat's uncanny power to talk to ghosts/create forgeries you've got a tv crime procedural right there.

I was like WTF is Buster Bros., and thought of Bonanza Bros. instead.

I think Shipwreck would be in an okay position to review Star Fox for us. It sounds quite divisive. Remember when Devil's Third came out and half the reviewers were pooping on it? But Shipwreck liked it! Tell us how it goes in a later episode.

I'm not worried about the PS4.5. People are blowing the rumors out of proportion or something. I think games will run better, like people with better graphics cards generally do. However, new games still require patches and optimization to run its basic features anyway, so what's the whining about?

One thing that could / should play into a 4K TV decision would be HDR / expanded color gamut support - you're not going to find 1080p TV's that are compatible with that, and material mastered for it absolutely is visible regardless of seating distance or visual acuity.  Of course the cheapest (and older) 4K TV's aren't HDR-ready either but one doesn't have to pay an exorbitant amount to get a TV that's quite future-proofed (such as one of the 2016 Vizio P series sets).

This may not be relevant for gaming yet but I wouldn't be surprised if the Neo (or NX, or rumored Xbox 1.5) will be able to take advantage of it, even if not rendering in native 4K resolution (and if nothing else, when used as a Blu-Ray player or streaming box, HDR content is already becoming available).  I would go as far to venture that HDR is actually a much more interesting development as far as TV image quality is concerned than 4K itself. :)

I loved when wombat read my feedback. Another fantastic show as always.

I was so glad when cheapy saw the comparison that the "PS4 NEO" is very similar to the 'new' 3DS. When the rumors came out it reminded me of what Nintendo had already done. Having to buy a whole new console just to play games more "prettier" sounds terrible. They should release an add on instead to boost performance similar to the Nintendo 64. E3 is shaping up to be crazy this year with PS4.5 and the NX.

Star Fox is at a 72 on Metacritic, that's divisive? Out of 50 or so reviews, it's an even split between positive and mixed reviews with only 1 negative review. Divisive would be if half the reviewers liked the game and half the reviewers hated the game. Seems like the game has a big learning curve with the controls.

Games wont obviously run at native 4k.. It will be up-scaled.. therefor any game can technically run at 4k.

Good show as always

You forgot about the other shooter / moba game Lawbreakers the CliffyB joint.

Also I think that star emblem on Halo was free to everyone as a tribute because there was a guy in the Halo community whose daughters passed away so 343 added it in memory of them.

Does anyone know the episode from the comment where Mrs Cheapy scared Cheapy?

Wasn't there a guy at Polygon who also talked about the party he went to instead of reviewing the new Rock Band? Is this Star Fox reviewer trying to copy that gimmick?

In two back to back stories (the glut of games that all look alike, have similar names and require you to play like a part time job to be competitive and the rumors of unnecessary for all but the few upgrade consoles), you guys hit why this long time, but rapidly approaching middle age, gamer is pretty disillusioned with this generation. Sadly, I was most excited about Pang coming out for PS4 because I know there's a game I won't need to shell out for a new console or become a professional gamer to have a good time playing.

I thought Overwatch wasn't actually a MOBA, but draws comparisons because it has some similarities and due to the genre being so popular at the moment. I've always heard it's like Blizzard's TF2.

Really a shame no one would engage with Cheapy on the kotaku discussion. He seemed like he really wanted to talk about it. Ship and wombat we're like, "meh, don't care".

Overwatch is not a MOBA, or trying to be a MOBA, or some new take on the MOBA genre. It's a class-based shooter (as Cheapy did mention) with team-oriented objectives. It's basically a new TF2. The gamemodes are practically identical to ones found in TF2. (Not that TF2 invented those or anything, but the similarities are striking.) Yeah, the classes have abilities and ultimates, but that doesn't automatically qualify it as trying to be a MOBA. It's pretty good. Better than I thought it would be.

Besides, Blizzard already has their own MOBA - Heroes of the Storm. Tracer from Overwatch was just added as a character in there.

Lichdom Battlemage should be avoided on console = https://youtu.be/DGCbYOMk8uk (horrible framerate exacerbated by horrible motion blur)

That right there, along with plenty of other games on PS4 and Xbox One, should give everyone pause about what happens performance-wise to the 'old' console revisions when these 'new' more powerful revisions come to market. Sony and Microsoft already let total shit-shows release on the existing models all the damn time and it's not just the big guys but even smaller indie stuff that simply ships somewhere between unplayable and vomit inducing. (and only some of them get patched)

If anyone thinks that the Neo and/or the Xbox 1.5 won't result in even worse resolutions and framerates on the 'base' models then you're 100% delusional.

I'm not even angry really...more of just not buying any more PS4 games and instead putting that money into a new PC fund because the last major differentiating feature of consoles, a static hardware platform, is going away *shrug*.

Full disclaimer: I love wombats cheesy jokes. He knows they're cheesy but I like him for putting them out there.

Question though...explain the neo geo joke at the 49 min mark? Sorry, don't get the reference

NEO GEO was a classic game system. NEO is the codename for the PS4.5. Geo means world/earth. PS4 NEO worldwide release = NEO GEO.
