Newegg has my eternal ire (credit card fraud).

So I received an email this afternoon letting me know that my account email was changed. I was busy at the time and didn't notice it immediately, but then someone tried to order a bunch of eBay gift cards with my credit card on there. My credit card company immediately denied it and left me a message to call them, so no trouble there. The problem is that Newegg suspended my account and told me to make a new one when I called them about it, and when I told them that I'd recently ordered things from them (meaning that if I had to return them, I couldn't access my account to do it) and that I just signed up for a year of Premier, the rep pointed out that it was a free year of Premier (.edu address) and didn't try to help me after that.

Probably not going to buy from them for a while. If there were cheaper places to buy computer parts, I wouldn't buy from them again at all. It seems stupid that they'd let someone from an IP address that's likely nowhere near mine log into my account, change my email, and then not require them to authenticate it from my current email address. Plus, of course, they leave me hanging high and dry at the end of it all. Let me just say thank god for my credit card company, who actually handled this well and kept me from losing any money, even for a minute.

So your name is "thievery" and you're upset someone just tried to steal from you?
My username here means I should be stolen from? I'm not upset about that, anyway, since my credit card company nipped it in the bud before they could even get anything. I'm angry at Newegg because my account is still open - just suspended. I keep getting an email to contact CS about it whenever the person who stole my account tries to log in, and chatting with CS through live chat or phone gets me nowhere - they keep saying to just make a new account and ignore the fact that I have ton of purchase history on that account, as well as a year of Premier and a registered credit card on file. I don't understand why they can't change my email back to mine and let me at least remove everything associated to it and have it deleted.

None of my other accounts anywhere else have been touched, either, so I wish I knew how someone managed to get my Newegg information.

What exactly did you expect Newegg to do, reopen your old account that is still compromised?  Give you another free year of Premier?  They already gave you  free money and now you want more after the mistake was yours?  Credit laws may protect you as the buyer but they don't protect the seller so the next time you get careless they may end up footing the entire bill.

TC, I think The Questyen was just joking. Or I hope he was. Nobody can be that stupid.

How the hell was it his mistake that someone jacked his CC number? Read the damn post before you open your mouth.

I'm mostly just confused as to how he thought I got "free money" out of what happened. I didn't get anything out of this but a few long phone calls with people I could barely understand and a new credit card number. Their Facebook rep said that they'd reinstate my Premier membership if I made a new account and emailed them afterwards, but to be honest, I haven't felt the motivation to make another account with them yet. As I said, their site was the only one where I had my account stolen, so my faith in their security is a little shaken.

Here is what you should be mad at... Why are you still shopping at NewEgg?
Honest, not snarky question: do you know of a better retailer for computer parts? TigerDirect has gone downhill after their bankruptcy (go figure), Fry's and Micro Center don't have any locations near me, and Amazon doesn't typically carry everything I want to buy. I just built a new computer for my family a couple of weeks ago and managed to get the CPU and case from them, but they didn't carry the RAM or motherboard I wanted, nor did they offer a $20 rebate for the PSU. Newegg seems to get all of the rebate offers, and though I hate having to go through that whole process, it can add up. If I could find a reliable alternative, I'd give them a try, but my mind's a blank.

Maybe you should "read the damn post" before you open your mouth. It's not really a problem of just a CC card number was stolen. His account was completely compromised, leading to them using a CC he had on file. Amazon, microsoft, sony or other places would have done the same thing, since it's an account security issue on the user's end, not just a credit card number, and they don't want to risk that account being used again.
