you really cant use the rechargable xbox one battey packs on the xbox one elite controller

Maybe your battery pack swelled up. I believe overcharging the batteries can cause that to happen. I would trash it and just get some eneloops.

You can but you have do some easy work. As you can see in the second pic is the regular pack is on the left and the elite on the right.

To get a regular one to fit such as the one with the charger opening in the first pic. You are going to want to use pliers and break the two side clips at the bottom off as close as you can then with a knife shave it down and until its flat. That's it. Those pics are back from November when I did it. 

It fits perfect on the back and the charging station and it only took me 5 minutes after I was done being pissed that it didn't fit when I first opened and tried it. 

To be fair, I wouldn't say "M$" on this. They had to change because of the added buttons on the back. Which is why the things are moved closer to the middle.
