Light Guns for the PS1

The Dark Enforcer

I've been thinking of buying the game Maximum Force for the PS1 because it was one of my favorite games at a local restaurant while growing up.

However, the issue is that I've never owned a PS1 light gun, so I don't know what I'd be looking at. Ideally I'd like to find a light gun that looks something like a Glock or Baretta and not a space gun or a revolver, without being overtly bulky.

So, if there are any CAGs out there with some advice on which PS1 light gun model is the one that would best fit the above criteria, please reply with your opinion.

Thanks.

It's worth noting that light guns don't work with LCDs or Plasmas... CRTs only.

Otherwise, if you still want to get one, GunCon is basically the best in terms of functionality. I used the SNES Justifier and that one seemed to work fine. I don't think there's anything that resembles a real gun and both GunCon and Justifier are kinda bulky.

Well shoot, I could do with a light gun that doesn't look like a real gun. That was mostly wishful thinking.

But I wasn't aware that light guns don't work with modern TVs. Could you possibly explain why they don't work with LCD or Plasma TVs?

I might have to abandon my hopes of owning this game.

Not easy to explain but when newer TVs try to process older/lower resolution images, it takes them longer process the image from when the LCD/Plasma receives the signal from the console to when it's ready to display the image on screen. Light guns rely on a screen flicker to register whether a hit has been made or not... due to newer TVs needing longer to process an image, the flicker shows up much later than when the light gun expects it, resulting in a non-hit.

With that said, there are some light guns that work with LCD TVs but I've never used one and they're mean for newer consoles. I think the PS3/360 had one.

The 2nd post on this page might help you. Seems like the GunCon 3 works with PS1 games purchased on the PSN, but not sure if it works with physical copies.
