Hyper Light Drifter collectors edition $65 from iam8bit

Considering it isnt a deal at all I personally would have put this in the collectors edition thread.

Digital game code killed the deal for me. Hard to justify what is essentially $55 for a fake SNES cart with box and manual.
Same here. If the game was on a console like ps4 and the game came on a disc Id probably have gotten it, but essentially its 65 bucks to buy some toys and a code for a game I can buy a lot cheaper digitally anyway. Ill just wait for it to hit a steam sale or whatnot.

Well, what's the point of the SNES cart if it doesn't work? If the game was also on that cart, I'm sure there wouldn't be the same level of complaining.

Wtf? The cart doesn't even work? If so, I agree, this is pointless. Even if they put SOMETHING on the cart, a mini game even, it would be a little better.

Boy...lot of Debbie downers in here.
More likely, a lot of rational people who won't pay $55 for a $20 digital code with some extra useless junk thrown in. Whoever had the idea of including a fake empty SNES cart with the "CE", one that literally does nothing at all, was delusional. Had they included a working physical game (not SNES, but some other format), it would have been a different matter.

Aside from not having the game, how is this any different from any other "collector's edition"?

Honestly, they all come with useless shit. This is no different. I just happen to find it interesting. It'll be a nice collector's item to keep sealed.

There have been several CEs and press kits in the past few years that contained non-functional SNES, NES or N64 carts. Indeed, the Mega Man 9 press kit sells for way over MSRP and that not only came with a non-functional NES cart, but didn't even come with the game. Yooka Laylee had a tier that sold out multiple times of an N64 cart repro that didn't contain the game at almost $500. As others have pointed out, this is just as useful as all those statues or figurines or other items that come in modern CEs. Personally, I bought one of these as I like the look of the cart and other items.

It's a piece of art. Do you complain when publishers provide statues of in-game characters that don't move or talk to you like the characters in game? What about the non-working grappling hook from Just Cause 3 or the non-working Bayonetta gun from that European Bayonetta CE? Not everything has to have a practical application.

Bottom line, CEs with no actual physical game included are a joke, this one included. You may find a small core of diehard collectors willing to pay a premium for stuff like this, but most people don't like CEs without the physical game included. I agree that the fake SNES cart is no different than a statue, figurine, or model, but those are usually extras along with a physical game. Digital code CEs are, to most people, useless.

Lots of people buy individual game related items like statues, posters, art books, etc...You can just think of this as a curated collection of those things. I'm happy with my purchase and I'm sure others will be as well. Unlike most CEs, Iam8Bit actually produces small runs of these things and the quality is usually excellent, certainly better than 90% of the mass produced CEs I have bought over the years.

Considering many of us don't even open the seals on our collectors stuff the exclusion of a physical game is not a big deal. In fact I'm glad it's a code so I can keep it sealed and still play the game. It's obviously not for you so skip.

With collectors editions like this, Gears 4, Titanfall, Halo 5, and Mirror's Edge Catalyst costing way too damn much for too damn little, can you really blame people for being cynical about collectors editions these days? Yeah, this is $65 and all the other ones I mentioned are $200+ but you still can't argue with the logic

I ordered it as well.  I missed the Kickstarter and really wanted the physical copy that was the $62 tier.  The collectors edition is the same exact one except it includes a SNES cart as well so I see this as a sweet deal.

This game is still supposed to get a Vita release right? If that is still going to happen, I'll probably get this set since I plan to get the Vita game. Hopefully a physical Vita release can happen at some point as well.

I want the game and the digital code with this collectors edition says $20 code. So that means the game will be $20 so I can wait.

But also annoying how there is no date yet. Just 'late summer months'

You guys do realize that you're asking for the impossible right? SNES is old tech, whereas Hyper Light is built on modern processors and shaders. How the hell would you even get this game running on a console over 30 years old??

Retro City Rampage did it. Make sacrifices. It would appeal to people like me that find that stuff cool.

They should have at least also included the Steam soundtrack code with it.

I'm tempted, but folks here are correct, it's not a good value proposition. That said, the SNES stuff really resonates with me so I might just have to get it.

I don't think it's fair to say that, given we know little about the budget of either game. Maybe Retro City had the resources to do it. But I'd imagine they'd have to rebuild the game from the ground up to even accomplish that
