Went to xbox.com looking for this week's sales and instead found a "New low price, $279" banner in my face.

I can't confirm but I would think they are phasing these out since the pricing of the slims are gonna be about the same and will be better and more appealing in every way.

 
Price for the Elite is back up to $399...Just as I was about to pull the trigger.  Shows $349, until you click Buy Now.

Eh, good prices, but still happy with my NewEgg $279 refurb from last November.  to be fair, i've only used it for about 20 hours since then... come on Red Dead Redemption...

 
Hmm I got an email from Gamestop that they are offering $50 Gift Card with a purchase of Xbox One.

I don't see it on the website but got Gamestop Credit and I wouldn't mind getting the Elite plus $50 gift card for $350 and out right skip on the Xbox One Slim.

I could easily flip the elite controller for $100

I'm planning to do this tomorrow. Not too bad for bigger hard drive and elite controller.

Man, an old elite is a good deal at $350. Basically a $200 1TB SSD Xbox 1 and the $150 controller. Bestbuy TIV on an original X1 is $105 and GameStop is $100. Wonder if they'll have any trade in deals that are better than that? Or if the S doesn't sell as well as expected if it will be bundled w games this holiday season?
 
I see a lot of XB1 consoles selling between now and Christmas with all the upcoming deals. After seeing the unboxing video of the new Xbox S it just reminds me so much of a PS2 Fat that if I ever get an XB1 it will be the S especially considering I have no space for the VCR model. Now, back to blk ops III on my PS4 S.......I mean PS4.

I see what you mean, but I've had three PS2 slims and one PS2 fat. All three PS2 slims have disc read problems or ventilation. My fat is still going strong since release year. I think I'll be keeping my X1 fat as well. Full disclosure, one of the slims was my sisters so I don't know what all happened to it exactly, and one was a pre-owned.

 
I'd be all over that Elite bundle if I wasn't getting an S.. after you factor in the $150 elite controller you are getting a 1tb ssd xbox one for $200.. damn good deal. I hope they get an elite S equipped the same, or that the S models have replaceable internal hard drives..

Oops I pretty much echoed everything you said.. that said I think GameStop will have a trade up deal.. they have done it with pretty much every console released for the last decade or so, don't see it changing now.

I'm sure they will have a trade up deal when the slim comes out. My only concern would be exactly how much they will give you with the prices of the fat ones going down so much. I personally just picked up an elite console today and the controller itself was worth it in my opinion.
 
Rectangle shaped is somehow a bad thing? And the new ones will look the same, just smaller.

This "VCR" trolling bullshit needs to stop. Xbox One looks a lot nicer than the weird ugly slanted PS4. X1 blends into my entertainment center, PS4 sticks out like a sore thumb. Thank god I don't need to hook the PS4 up very often, as it barely has any games worth playing. Also I'm worried the piece of crap is going to overheat due to being stuffed in such a small case. The fans have to run so loud to keep it cool and even still it gets hot. Meanwhile the Xbox One is pretty much silent when running and it built with ventilation in mind.

Quit acting like the PS4 insulted your first born son.. the PS4 isn't the one calling the Xbox One a VCR so not sure why you lashed out at it.. the consensus is that the Xbox One is big, bulky, and ugly.. you may like it, but the majority don't.. There is a reason the Xbox One S is nearly the same form factor as the PS4.. because the PS4 is a sexy piece of kit.. #dealwithit

VCR styling and size is ugly or pretty is subjective but most agree it is the former.

Your statement about PS4 barely has anything worth to play is just fanboy talk. Last I checked, The PS4 and X1 both have the same library of games from 3rd parties and each have their own exclusive 1st party games. However, the X1 is missing a huge library of Japanese games that's available only on the PS4. I repeat, that list is huge and growing. It's obvious you value that handful of 1st party MS exclusive more than Sony's 1st party exclusives + the huge list of Japanese 3rd party exclusives... and that's fine, but don't be sounding like the PS4 is lacking in software compares to X1 as the truth is the exact opposite.

As for ventilation and noise, I agree with you. In the long run, the VCR box will outlived the sleek tiny box. Then again, this generation of consoles isn't gonna last 10 yrs like the last. In fact, both companies want you to upgrade every couple years, so durability may not even be necessary.
