I'm trying to watch videos on my xbone with a usb flash drive. it will not detect any media on the drive. I have formatted it to exFat, NTFS, and Fat32. I'm using a sandisk usb 3.0 16gb drive. what am I doing wrong?

Download the Media Player app. That's all you need, since it plays lots of different file types (even MKV). USB format can be either NTFS or FAT32.

*.mkv, *.mp4 . I did format it on a macbook. Do you think that would matter even if I did exFat, NTFS, and Fat32 on there? The xbone  detects the flash drive itself, but when I go to open it it keeps saying there are no files on there even when I know for a fact there are.

^^^Yeah

Don't think the machine you formatted on it would matter, but best to do it on a Windows machine just to eliminate all possibilities. MKVs should definitely work though.
