Using Controller on Sonic Adventure 2 Steam Version?

OK, I have Sonic Adventure 2 on Steam and I wanna use my PS2 controller with it, but apparently the only controllers the game detects are XBox 360 Controllers.

I looked up some way to get it to work and found a program called x360ce which tricks a game into thinking it's an XBox 360 Controller. I downloaded and set up the program, installed the files in the SA2 folder, and changed the Player Input value in the Keybord Configure file from 0 to 1, but it still isn't working.

Note that the controller works for other games like Sonic Adventure 1.

Any way to get this thing to work? Note, I have 0 experience in technical details, as I have never used a controller on my PC before now, so any real technical options are gonna need very detailed step-by-step formula.

Using XboxCe is confusing for plenty of people, especially if you don't know which version of the dll to use. Playing these games on a keyboard is no fun.

That link won't work for me since I'm not using a Play.com USB Adapter.

I wanted to use my Dual Shock 2 because it's something I already had. Would prefer not to spend a lot for a new controller just for one game (and an XBox controller at that. Ugh).
