Xbox One S Controller - $45 @Newegg

I don't know if anyone posted this but they have been on sale at GS for $49.99 for a couple weeks now.

Im thinking the new price is just 49.99 for now on,  not sure why they advertise as $59.99 but on sale

The original Xbox controller compared to the original Controller S was night and day. The original S was perfect, not huge like the original controller. Does this S controller have many physical differences than the X1 controller? They look almost identical, you can program buttons, bluetooth range, and all that, but does it still feel extremely cheap? I see it says it has grip, but I'm wondering about the quality. Can anyone speak to that? Is the quality alone worth buying this version over the original X1 controller, or is it only all those extras?

I bought one yesterday. The only difference between this and the standard controller is that this has a textured grip. Honestly, all of the Xbox One controllers that I have are 100% quality and each of them have a different feel to them. They're all great. I wish PlayStation would step up their game in that regard. I'd say, go with the color that you like. Or if you're a controller whore like me, buy them all!

Nah, those have way too flimsy, cheap plastic for me. The 360 controllers were best. The sides of the controllers always feels like it cracks a little where my inner knuckles go. I don't grip it any harder than any other controllers I've ever had. Each generation since Super Nintendo, I have had my launch controllers last the entirety of the time I owned the system (and I have owned every Nintendo, PS, & MS home consoles since SNES). I love the Elite, but I barely use it 'cause I don't want to wear it out (though it doesn't feel cheap like the others, I'm just overly cautious).

You think the Xbox One controllers feel too flimsy and feel like cheap plastic? I don't think they feel cheap at all. In fact, they're not cheap. The controllers outside of the standard ones cost like $75-$200. They're not cheap. Xbox really puts 100% into their controllers. These controllers actually feel like they were made for the players. Colors aren't the only thing that separates them, like PlayStation controllers. The feel also has very much to do with it. For example, the Forza 6 controller feels perfect for racing with its diamond grip. And this is coming from a long-time PlayStation fan. I've only had my Xbox since April, and I already see the difference in quality as far as controllers go. Since you only have the standard, it's hard for you to judge until you've felt a different controller. I'd recommend getting one. If not the white one, get one of the special or limited controllers, and feel the difference for yourself.

Sorry, to be clear, I was only referring to the standard X1 controller. I have not used any special edition controllers beyond the Elite, which I love so far (though I own a Halo green MC controller, but it's sealed). That's why I was asking about these, to see if they were better made, or at least more sturdy than the standard X1 controller. This is why I specifically asked about the physical aspects. I can read about the other differences between them, but I can't feel the quality unless I bought one to get my hands on it (not to mention, they all feel good the first few weeks). I was wondering if I should use my Elite controller once this X1 controller (that I bought brand new after trading 2 used controllers in that were borderline ragged for) gets too close to "unsatisfying", then IF the Elite has the same issues over time (a much longer time I'd hope), get another Elite, since they seem to be the best...? I would prefer to save the Elite for certain games, then buy a good controller to use the rest of the time, so maybe the S or another SE controller is the way to go. I tried to get the Forza controller at a decent price, but not paying $60-70 for a controller when it could be the same quality as the pack in, with a pretty paint job. I did a year's worth of 'research' before investing in an Elite controller.

I got the 2 controllers I traded in with my used X1. I can now see how they became that way, though mine would never get that bad. Casual gamers, or young kids, that just don't take any care whatsoever about the condition of their controllers (those who don't even notice a loose thumbstick) can easily wear out the thumbsticks, the shoulder buttons, and the outer sides of the controller (the plastic just comes apart, and it creaks everytime I grip the controller. It's already happened to my newest controller, which I may have had ~6-8 months now). I have friends with this same issue of the plastic coming apart. On my newer controller, the right thumbstick is already a tiny bit loose, and that was the main thing I couldn't stand on the controllers that I got used (and led me to trade 2 of them + some funds to get 1 new controller). I also own a ps4, with it's standard controller. The controller seems ok, but I don't play it enough to judge the quality yet, nor have I used any other ps4 controller (I wanted to buy the adapter for the Elite, but not sure if I trust it yet). Maybe it's just this generation of pack in controllers, but those were always the best controllers that I had gotten in the past consoles. I have always preferred the Xbox controller S (my favorite controller ever), then the 360 controller. I did have 1 other controller that I used besides the pack in 360 controller, the Halo Reach controller (I gave my pack in to a coworker that thought it was brand new and wanted to pay me almost full price for it). I had used the pack in from the 360 launch until the Reach controller came out, which had to be a few years at minimum.

Anyways, sorry for rambling. I hope you understand that I wasn't trying to bash the controller blindly, and I appreciate your opinion.

EDIT: I should have said, "cheaply made," instead of cheap, I guess? Just because something cost consumers a lot, does not mean the manufacturer paid a lot for it. They try to buy low, sell high, as often as possible. Paying lots of money =/= quality.

Okay.

I've never had a problem with a controller since the PS1 or PS2 days. Smooth sailing ever since.

The Forza controller does not feel like a "pack-in" at all with the diamond grip. It feels special. Everything I own from Xbox feels very well-crafted and worth every penny.

Thank you for appreciating my opinion. I'm just trying to help!

Oh well; I'm happy with all of my controllers, so it's a win-win for me!

Wow. I really wish I would have gotten that Forza controller over the Halo Master Chief controller. I knew the Halo one came with in game items that were potentially valuable, and a Gamestop employee took one of the Halo controllers out of the box for me to hold & admire before I bought it (an absolute beauty). I couldn't find much info on the Forza one, and I couldn't find a local store that had one in stock. Amazon would have been my only option.

I logged in to Amazon one morning and saw the Forza controller was like $47, shipped & sold from Amazon. I thought they were being reduced, so I wasn't in a particular hurry. I decided I would order one when I got off work that day. Of course, they had risen in cost...ABOVE the price they had been for the few weeks I had been eyeing them (they were holding steady at around $59 until the day I saw them for $47, but later that same day they were a penny away from full retail price, $69.98). I couldn't even entertain the thought of paying that for a controller at that time.

Thanks for your input on the Forza controller. I think I will try to find someone with a sealed Forza controller that wants to make an even trade for my sealed Master Chief controller. I may not open it for a while, but I will be glad to know I can if I need a quality controller. Take care.
