Im upgrading my gaming pc soon and the monitor I want only has hdmi, the video card I want has hdmi. Is it really as easy as just plugging it in and it works?

I only ask because up till now Ive only used dvi connectors for my pc, never an hdmi.

DVI can be converted to HDMI with a cheap adapter. In terms of plugging in the card, that should be pretty easy as long as you familiarize yourself with the extra clip by the slot where the card is. Don't try to rip out the old card without holding down that clip to release it and you'll do fine.

HDMI is HDMI regardless of where it is at.  If you've used one you will be fine.  The thing to keep in mind is that audio can be output over that.  Remember that or be frustrated when you wonder why your sound is sh!tty after it changes the default output to HDMI.  That's the only gotcha I've ever had.
