50% Criterion Sale @ BN/BN.com - ends 11/28/16.

Definitely have a few things to try and pick up, topped off by Boyhood and The New World.

Are there any current coupon codes for B&N that we are aware of?

I was just going to start a new thread for this.  You beat me to it!  I'm going to pick up some Terrence Malick movies:  Badlands, Days of Heaven, The New World, and The Thin Red Line.  Slowly, one at a time over the course of the next month each time I have a 20% off coupon.

So what movies  are you all going to buy from this Criterion sale?

I got most stuff I was missing from Criterions flash sale, but they sold out of Dekalog immediately so I'll get that here when there's a coupon that stacks.

Also Akira Kurosawa's Dreams, obviously. And yes, that's actually the full title.

Do the coupons work for anyone anymore? They say on the coupon that they exclude criterion movies and my local best buy won't accept them anymore. This just started for the last two criterion sales.

It seems like for the past few years, ever since I started collecting, there's like one per sale that does work. No rhyme or reason to it, either. I just try every one that shows up in my emails.

On one of the previous Criterion sales where a coupon was available, there was no mention of the restriction but the cashier at the store told me that he heard coupons wouldn't be valid on the Criterion sales going forward.  I posted it here and people were skeptical (as was I) but I guess it's true.

No, the coupons do not work anymore. The Criterion Collection blu rays and dvds are added to the list of coupon exclusions at B&N.com (or if you click the link to exclusions on the email). However, I used three coupons already this month because the cashier manually entered them in. So its YMMV. But the coupons do not properly scan at the register anymore. The gravy train of coupons working for criterion sales is over.

Yeah, the trend of this is why I started mostly buying direct from Criterion during their flash sales. At least then, for every $500, you get a $50 gift certificate, equating 10% back. Better than nothing.

I love/loathe this sale every year, this year I went all in and got virtually every movie that was on my wishlist these last few years.  Dropped over $400+

Some highlights:

Zatoichi Collection (the $100 & was almost a deal breaker again this year, until I saw Zatoichi X Sanjuro, I was like I gotta see that)

A smattering of Kurosawa films I still needed (I'm hoping some of the Criterion DVD releases get re-released on Blu-ray)

Don't Look Now

The Game

Qatsi Trilogy

Moonrise Kingdom (I might start getting more Wes Anderson movies, I think they're quirky, but I need to watch more before taking the plunge)

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (really debated this as I don't love the film, but want all of Terry Gilliam's films on Blu-ray)

Safety Last (figured I'd give Harold Lloyd a chance)

Three Outlaw Samurai

Kwaiden

and more....

Was sad to see PT Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love being OOS, I really wanted that (didn't know it was Criterion)

I went to my local BN yesterday and bought my haul for the year:

Trilogia de Guillermo del Toro

Punch-Drunk Love

The Spy Who Came in From the Cold

Y Tu Mama Tambien

McCabe & Mrs. Miller

Fantastic Planet

Blood Simple

So many more I want to get (Cat People, Wes Anderson stuff, Don't Look Now)...they will have to wait!

Wish I had bought Y Tu Mama Tambien back when the coupon worked. Now I'll have to pay an extra $6 stupidity tax to see Maribel Verdu's assets in high definition. At least with Cat People and McCabe & Mrs. Miller (two films that benefit from HD big time) I have the comfort of knowing I didn't have a choice, as they were both released in the last few months.
