RROD consoles?

MutantMike

CAGiversary!
Looking to get my son a 360 to get him started in gaming, he is 10

I found a nice 120GB holiday bundle (Pure/Batman Lego) with box and everything but I am worried about the red ring.

Are there particular models to stay away from?

This is the 120gb holiday bundle I think from 2009

I guess you're referring to something like this?

https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Elite-Winter-Batman-Bundle/dp/B002LBGB1S

That's the Elite version of the OG X360 system, which is the least likely to RROD of the first model of the 360, though the S and E models are so much better than the OG X360.   It's a revised version which comes with an HDMI port and somewhat better internals with a lesser chance to RROD, though since it's still the original design in form, it still has a possibility to do so.

The X360 S / Slim is an update to the OG X360 design, where it comes with built-in 2.4Ghz wireless, an internal hard drive bay than the external hard drive on the OG Xbox 360, a dedicated Kinect port, additional USB ports (5 total) and an integrated optical out.  It's a smaller design than the original one, plus it ha

The X360 E is a refined design from the S / Slim, where it drops the optical out port the AV port needed for component, adds in a dedicated composite out port and drops one USB port (4 total).   It's smaller than the S, slightly quieter and uses the least power.

If you're looking for a non-new system, I'd suggest trying to find a S or E model than the OG version, mainly for the updates they did to it as well as a much lesser chance for RROD.   There are a decreasing number of new systems in the retail channel and they're all E models.

Thanks, so much!

So the Elite 120GB has no HDMI? That is not good. I already bought the console because it was like new and $65, just could not pass that up.

The Elite does have HDMI, first 360 to have it. Other 360s did get it after the Elite, though it's still a OG X360 and more likey to have a RROD than an E or S model X360.

IMO the Xbox ONE consoles are so cheap now, just buy him one of those.  Even moreso because they are constantly adding BC games from the 360 library.  Best of both worlds.
