Veey wierd Bestbuy account ban situation!

Cloudx9

CAGiversary!
Ok well, my Bestbuy.com account took an even more awkward turn from what I assumed was a ban. Earlier I was getting my orders canceled immediately after I placed it with the dreaded we cannot verify information response. My order was for 2 PS4 copies of GTA V and 1 XB copy of GTA V. As you all know GTA V is going to be $30 next week. So I order it for store pickup and was planning on picking it up Sunday to see if price would adjust then. Well my orders been getting cancelled no matter what I tried after trying 5 times. I changed CC and even my IP address. Well just earlier I tried again with the same order for the 6th time. And they canceled again right away. Well this time just for the heck of it I then placed an order for a ink cartridge for my printer and to my surprise, no cancellations. Then I tried again with GTA V for the 7th time and automatically cancelled again. So thinking maybe I was banned from ordering video games. I did another random order for 3 copies of Steep (2 PS4, 1 XB1). And guess what, no cancellations yet (ordered 30 minutes ago). So it seems like I'm blocked from ordering GTA V for some reason. Either that or its the choosing store pickup option that's triggering the automatic cancellations since the ink order and 3 copies of steep were all set for shipping.

So with that said, anyone wanna try making the exact same 3 copies of GTA V order for store pickup and see if it also gets automatically canceled lol.

Edit: hmmm apparently GTA V isn't the trigger either. Just had my cousin do a mock order for 3 copies of GTA V for store pickup and his went through with no cancellations. Seems like I'm banned from ordering GTA V for some reason lol. And I just made another order for a 4k Bluray movies that's on clearance and it went through fine as well. This mystery is actually bothering me quite a bit lol.

Edit 2: looks like any order I place for store pickup automatically gets canceled. While ship to home seems fine. I've honestly never seen any other reports of this type of ban before.

You've posted this in 3 places now. The surprising part of this story isn't the cancellations, it's the fact that you are placing orders for in store pickup, cause you don't strike me as someone who gets out very much.

Why don't you just call Best Buy support rather than posting this all over CAG?

maybe they are getting sick of you in store buying stuff early and then demanding price matches

Hey genius, maybe it's because I already asked for bestbuy customer support numerous times and they weren't much help. Also, quite a few others reported similar auto cancellations lately without knowing why. So I thought I'd share my experience as well so those that have been affected could see it. If this don't effect you, then ignore it and move along instead of making useless responses that don't help anyone.

LOL except I rarely ever demand price matches unlike some people here who do it all the time. I've demanded PM from Bestbuy only once this year and that was over the phone, not in store.

I don't remember the details exactly but I believe many major retailers use a third party company that tracks customers purchasing habits: what they buy, how often they buy, returns, asking for price matches/refunds, etc across all shared retailers (as in, all retailers who use said service). It's possible you got flagged for something b/c of your purchasing habits across a few retailers.

There was a CAG who explained this a few years back and there was even a thread about it. I wish I could remember who it was or what the service was called. You could apparently even get a self report from the company.

That's is partly true.

Correct me if I'm, but I think you're referring to TRE (The Retail Equation), which is used by most of the big retailers, BB included.

While they do track for each of their clients individually, the equation doesn't account for all retailers as an average, only the retailer you are purchasing from directly.

They basically use a similar algorithm that Amazon, which takes into account all of the cost-benefit that could be involved with a customer, except with TRE, it mainly just tracks returns, and doesn't account for price matching and general customer service contact.

However, the one thing that is different in this person's case is that under BB TRE algorithm, once they've hit that threshold, they actually don't ban the customer from buying, but they do ban them from returning anything. In the beginning it will be a shorter ban, like 6 months, and if you keep breaking the policies, then they'll ban you for longer.

TRE is strictly just to prevent people from returning, but not a method of banning people from purchasing, as that would not really be beneficial for companies to ban people from spending more money with them, which is why Amazon's algorithm is much more extreme in many cases.

In the op's case, this sounds like a bigger issue than just TRE, as they aren't even letting him make purchases, much less return anything, so yeah, who knows exactly what his current issue is.

Im sure OP knows what he did wrong. His local BB likely blocked him from buying anything for some reason, again I am sure he knows what he did. Buying three copies of the same game planning to price match later leads me to believe he has been a nuisance for his local store in the past.
