Nvidia is positioning Shield now as home computer.  Something that is always at home and can talk to your security camera, lights, etc and do entertainment stuff plus run AI personal assistants.  Nvidia CEO thinks the home needs a computer just like the car.  And that what used to be termed the home computer is now a person's personal computer and goes with them whereever they go and thus a computer just for the home is needed.  Google recent interview with Nvidia CEO on VentureBeat.

Maybe  charging by the minute for cloud gaming is to entice users to try the service.  Maybe it's a way to try the different graphics cards?  Maybe the Shield and the cloud gaming service are just made to show off their chips.

I'm feeling you guys on the Lego Dimensions. That game is a lot more dense than what I usually expect from the Lego games. I played it in the evening for several days, and I only got about 40% of the way through the main story mode. I've got a whole bunch of level packs that I refuse to open until I've cleared the main story, so even with all of the Dimensions stuff that I've collected, I've barely scratched the surface on playing through the content. Any child could spend the better part of a month playing that game and still be finding new secrets and collectibles. With my schedule, it will likely be another month or two before I finally get around to playing through the main campaign.

As far as the manuals go in Lego Dimensions, you can find them all online, I believe at the official site. I used my iPad to build mine while on conference calls :)

I wonder if Wombat is one of those guys who made out during Schlindler's List.

I shed a tear at Guardians of the Galaxy. Peter Serafinowicz and Sharif Atkins' characters should've lived.

Wombat was right about nintendo needing to put out these games out faster...I mean one must play game at launch and a mario game in holiday 2017?! This system will bomb hard smh. Also $299.99, when current gen consoles are $249.99 and due for a price drop...jesus...Nintendo is really messing up.

  • Nintendo Switch Pro Controller -- $69.99
  • Joy-Con Controller Sets -- $79.99
  • Individual L/R Joy-Con Controllers -- $49.99
  • Joy-Con Charging Grip -- $29.99
  • Nintendo Switch Dock Set -- $89.99
  • Joy-Con Wheel (Set of 2) -- $19.99

As expected to me.  You got your 3 big new Nintendo games 1st year.  You got your WiiSports/Nintendoland "new ways to play" games:  Switch 1/2 and Arms.  Price not a surprise although on the high end of what I figured.

They did say it combines all their systems, but is their one piece of hardware going forward that gets all their handheld/console game development?

All the details they didn't mention are coming out and will continue to come out tomorrow.   Probably mainly because of time limits and because all of their markets are different.

They also have an enhanced port of MarioKart8 btw.

Sad to see this episode come out before the switch event. You should do a special edition episode tomorrow if possible just so we can hear Wombat on the Switch reveal.

I was the guy who asked Wombat about Deus Ex. The main reason I ask is I felt they were quite similar. I can't remember his name but I know the guy behind Deus Ex was the project lead on Dishonored 1, so I feel both franchises share some of the same DNA.

Both Mankind Divided and Dishonored were both in my top five of the year, I really dig the gameplay in both. They both feature semi open level designs (not open world with a ton of filter side missions or a trillion icons to collect on a map) but still have alot of hidden secrets and areas to explore, and the game gives you freedom to tackle missions in any way you see fit.

You can face scenarios like:

Dishonored 2 - "Execute High Overseer John Smith"

You enter the mission area. Do you go low chaos or high chaos? Stick to the rooftops or go through the sewers? Are you seeking out the optional objectives to deal with the target with the "best outcome"? How are you combo-ing your gadgets and powers?

Deus Ex is similar - "Infiltrate the bank and extract the data"

Am I walking through the front door and hacking my way into different offices? Am I going through vent shafts? Am I finding a weakness in the walls and smashing through? Am I lethally or non-lethally dealing with enemies?

This is my favourite kind of gameplay right now. These really fun and creative ways you can tackle each mission. Especially in Deus Ex where you enter an area then reverse engineer your way through the level to see all the other ways you could have done it.

I was thinking you'd probably have issues with the dialogue or setting in Deus Ex and see you expressed annoyance on twitter about all the talking. Doesn't matter, though you dig Dishonored 2 so we can still be friends.

Porn.  Porn is where you can pay by the minute for streaming content.  R18 does it, at least, and some other sites that don't have Marina Matsushima videos probably do too!

Remember all those people that were like "I would buy a WiiU but I just wish you could snap these side controllers off the screen, stick this tiny expensive screen in a trash can and play cowboys with plastic guns!"

Nintendo looked at that market and said, "Look no further boys, cuz we have got you covered!!! For the low low price of $360+tax you can play plastic cap gun shoot shoot with everyone at your next house party! You just snap off these controllers, stick this screen in your nearest trash can and your ready to play!"

"Jeepers Nintendo, you thought of everything gamers have been demanding! Where do I preorder?"

The only movie I ever full out cried during was Toy Story 3.  That movie killed me.  Anything else I've gotten teary eyed, but never actually cried.

RedLetterMedia is the absolute best.  Cheapy, if you haven't yet, check out their Best of the Worst series.  They watch shit movies and rip them apart.  When I discovered RLM for the first time, I was on vacation and binge watched every single thing they ever created.  It was a great week.  I still go back and watch old episodes of BOTW.  I love em.

I heard about the Mario Kart 8 port, and it got me thinking... Wouldn't it have been nice if Reggie said during the Switch announcement, "...and since the WiiU has such a vibrant catalog, we are going to have the top 5 Nintendo WiiU titles available AT LAUNCH so you can start playing them right away. Even more, if you bought them digitally through our Nintendo store, you get them FOR FREE. We will have more WiiIU titles ported over before the holiday season."

Wombat will definitely order the Switch. It will have his favorite 5+ year old game, Skyrim. I mean, who hasn't been dying to play Skyrim yet again on a portable 720p resolution screen with waggle controls?

I haven't cried at a movie since I was a child. I've felt sad at movies but never cried at movies as an adult. I save my crying for real life sadness. You aren't alone, Wombat.

A lot of people would love a portable version of skyrim. How is that even a question?

Great episode guys!

Haha talking about crying in movies, I freaking tear up all the time. I don't think I'm quite as bad as Cheapy but it's enough to where it's certainly annoying.

Oh gosh, the Switch....I don't even know.

I mean Nintendo gonna Nintendo and they sure did Nintendo.

I'm certainly going to get one as soon as possible but I also have a pc and X1. I honestly don't see how it's going to sell to the casual "wii" audience with a $300 price tag and no pack in game.

I'm really really hoping this holiday Nintendo will drop the price to $269 and include 1, 2 Switch or Mario.

Along the lines of my exclusive games questions, I have another question. I'm struggling to see the selling point of an X1 if someone already has a decent pc. I guess the S can play 4K video but other than that what's the point? Pretty much every Microsoft exclusive is coming out on pc too.

Thoughts?

You really think so? Portable gaming only really works for games that can be played in short play sessions imo. With games like Skyrim I feel like I'm not making any progress if I don't play for at least 45mins at time and I never have that kind of free time when I'm away from my house.

I'm with Wombat on the no crying at movies discussion, I have never cried during a movie or game. The characters and stories aren't real so why would they make me cry?

I cant wait to hear your guy's thoughts on the Switch presentation. I thought it was terrible and I don't even understand why Nintendo thinks this console will be more successful than the Wii U. It's to expensive for 3DS owners to adopt, it has terrible 3rd party support, accessories are overpriced, and the bulk of the first year games are just ports.

As always, great, sensible thought on Nintendo. I already can't wait to hear next week's episode in reaction to the Switch pricing and details.

Don't get me wrong, I coild care less about that console right now, but I really want to hear you three dig in.

In more immediate Nintendo irritants, has anyone heard ANYTHING of substance about their shipment plans for the NES Classic going forward? I almost get the impression they've pretty much dropped it and if you didn't get one, oh well. "Come see our fine selection of overpriced thirtysomething classics on the all-new Switch Virtual Console!"

Uncharted is now a bigger tent pole exclusive than anything on the Xbox. Bigger than Halo and way bigger than Gears. Uncharted 4 already sold almost nine million. The Last of Us 2 will be also be bigger.
http://m.ign.com/articles/2017/01/05/ces-2017-uncharted-4-sold-through-87-million-copies-in-2016
Forza has never been a big seller.
Uncharted? Never heard of it. Oh, you mean the only game bundled with the PS4 for at least the last 3 months of the year. Yeah, it's a big game and I even named it in my top games of the year. If you asked me whether I'd rather own the IP of Halo, Gears, or Uncharted, I'm going to go with Halo and Gears first.

they were the same people that said...

"Two screens on a handheld... that will never sell."

"Motion controls and a funny name...that will never sell."

Not saying the switch will be a huge success but they've proven the armchair critics wrong before.

I hope your right, I really do. General consensus inside my circles is they are still chasing that Wii $$$ and not doing anything new.

I showed the videos to my 5 year old and even he was critical and said he just likes our Xbox better. He asked me why you have to play Mario on an iPad instead of a big TV.

I showed and talked about it with ppl at work and they had no interest in it either. These are ppl that still have Wii's in there homes. Even they were wondering why they needed to upgrade the motion controls.

The Nintendo I used to feel so much fondness towards is stuck with investors that still have those Wii money signs in there eyes. They seem to be having the same problem as Apple, everyone is waiting for them to innovate and they are stuck in a rut.

I don't mind owning weird systems so I'm sure I will buy a Switch someday, heck I still plan on buying a WiiU, it has just never hit my price point where I can justify it with the lack of content.

Whoa Wombat what's with the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hate? I highly doubt they will end after this season.

More Rocksmith talk as well, did you try out your bass on it?

To anyone interested in Overwatch. The guys are right that the fps side of things are quite simple to pick up. The game as a whole is very team oriented. If unfamiliar with the toons or maps at hand, you can get a lot of flack from people who may think you are trolling and losing on purpose. The frustration that comes with the competitive side of PvP games can ruin it. Awesome game, yes, but not for the people that can't handle trolls or ragers when performance is sub par.

I not sure It wil even be the next gamecube... I preordered but may not go through. The lack of games is really disturbing for me. I'm really onboard with the handheld/ console hybrid though. Of course apple could make a TV dock too

The only immediate news regarding the NES Classic is the ability to add more games than the original 30. It sounds fairly straightforward to do, but of course involves getting your hands on a NES Classic, downloading a small program, having a Windows 7 or higher computer, and having the ROMS (cough cough - IP theft issues). Once you have those it is as easy as clicking through some menu and dragging and dropping games. Oh and choosing the pic you want shown on the on-screen menu. You plug your NES Classic into the USB and it does the rest automagically. Or something. I'm not a Russian hacker, I can't explain how it works any more than I can explain why Nintendo didn't anticipate more than 2 million people wanting the NES Classic.

Anyway, here's a link from Android Central

Possible conspiracy theory (put on tin foil hat...). Nintendo withheld classic systems when they figured they couldn't meet demand to up the pre-orders on the switch. People blindly pre-ordeing due to the possible scarcity of the system causing gamers and scalpers alike to flood pre-order channels? Dosen't seemed to far fetched to me seeing the recent gaming news.  Brilliant marketing? Or just Nintendo being Nintendo???

No way they have that much foresight.
