So as someone who has nothing better to do but read 124 page court documents, this is what I gathered from what happened today:

-You have until 4/20/2018 to return anything bought prior to liquidation following the return policy in place before liquidation started.

-They will not let you return and rebuy items for the liquidation discount under the return period for things bought before 3/23/18.(I assume some of you could get lucky if you get someone who doesn't care anymore)

-During liquidation, you have 21 days to return a defective item from date of purchase, and only if defective. Taking this one off, I haven't seen an official store document saying this is true, just the court document.

-Gift cards and Reward Money are accepted until 4/20/18, and the giraffe is keeping your cash after that. He also says you can't pay out a gift card for cash either, because he really likes his greens.

- Turns out the last day to use Reward Money was 3/22/18, which was not what anything I had seen before seemed to imply.

-No coupons are usable anymore, be it store, vendor, or rewards coupons.

-If for some reason you had a layaway, you will be notified within 7 days and have 21 days to pick it up or get the deposit back. If you don't, Geoffrey gets to keep your money.

-If you know someone who had a baby registry and expected a gift card from the "endless earnings" program, they're probably not getting it.

-If you have a Toys R Us store credit card, the court documents say this: "Synchrony Bank has no obligation to finance the sale of any goods or services in connection with Store Closings and Sale". I would assume you shouldn't count on using it to buy stuff. The new customer FAQ they put up says you should be able though.

-While employees were notified they were only guaranteed pay through May 14th, the court document implies some stores could be open until June 31st, or likewise, close earlier than May 14th (employees still get paid either way if that happens).

-Sales start 3/23/18, with most discounts at 10%. Some things will not be discounted (Nintendo Switch product, Lego).

-Checks are no longer accepted as of 3/21/18.

-The Toys R Us Credit Card 10% Thursdays discount is no longer available.

-No more price matching.

-Babies R Us online orders are taking a very long time, but will get their stuff according to the official FAQ. Use online ordering at your own risk, I guess.

-Assembly services are no longer available, gotta build that bike, power wheels, pillow fort, or swingset on your own (or bribe someone with cold beverage of choice).

Maybe someone would like to toss this in the first post, or move it into a whole new TRU liquidation thread. I realize the gift card thing seems to be conflicting with the previously noted information that indicated  30 days from March 15th, but today's document seems to imply it starts from the start of their "wind down order" which became effective March 20th. Don't expect some merchandise to be available for sale, as some product is not technically owned by TRU itself, such as NECA toys, Pokemon/Yugioh/Sports/etc. cards, and I believe American Greetings as well (Pokemon cards are already removed from my local store). Companies also have the right to not give anymore product to TRU, and may even ask for it back if it already made its way to them. I'll post more if anything comes up, and if anyone gets a Geoffrey costume, post some pictures and hijinks.

EDIT: New information added on 3/23/18, some things are crossed out due to changes.

Thanks for sharing ShinAkuma!

So looks like I'll check it out after work Thursday. If it's too crowded though I'm just going to say forget it. 25% isn't much better than GCU and they didn't have anything must have I couldn't get elsewhere at my store. It'd be nice to make one last purchase from TRU though so I will definitely get something before it's all over.

I assume this will mean a lot of the good stuff will never make it to the shelves for us to buy?  Employees will buy or hide all the good games and other stuff they want from the customers?

Possibly. I don't know how thorough the liquidators are going to be, but the fact that they are probably selling EVERYTHING including fixtures and shelves might mean hiding places will be found. I know at least one employee that was going to try and hide stuff in some ceiling tiles in the back to wait for a discount.

If this company just comes in occasionally to re-price shit, then the stuff people want will be held as much as they can manage. At some stores, I'd imagine stuff will just be straight up stolen. Since they aren't fulfilling online orders in store anymore, there isn't really any obvious way that stuff would be found missing. One of the co-workers that picked up a shift at an earlier closing store said they had really stopped giving a shit and scanned out literally ALL items from the back of house, so finding anything was a nightmare.

I'm for either a new thread or an update to the OP too. We clearly have a lot of people not reading the overall thread or we wouldn't keep seeing "nothing is on sale yet" post.

Well truthfully I still work there at the moment (had been looking for a new job well before the announcement though), and it quite literally is sad this was even a thing I had to do in order to learn anything for myself or those I work with. There are definitely things the company doesn't own for fixtures and a few other things, so you won't be able to buy some stuff you see. As far as the reasoning for a new thread or update of the OP is concerned, I believe it is the thing to do because nothing on that OP applies any longer given liquidators now run the show and set the policies, all of which are different now.

If any fellow employees are here, keep in mind your discount is gone after tomorrow. I'm not sure there would be much of a reason to buy anything tomorrow over waiting for the liquidation prices, but if the jacking up to original MSRP strategy is accurate I know there would be many games that are cheaper before liquidation.

If wave 2 follows the same as wave 1, the prices in the system freeze at the start of liquidation.  The liquidation company only sets the % discount schedule and have no say as to change prices on items.

Just notice a lot of gaming hardware no longer show up online for pickup, have they been sent back to warehouse or you have to hunt store to store for these?

The pickup option should have been disabled for all items on the website in anticipation of liquidation starting.

Santa Ana store (on original list but later removed) did not have any deals on video game section. Many more people than expected in the store for a Tuesday evening, but not crowds of people. May be checking more SoCal stores tomorrow, or just wait til Thursday.

Sales for my store start either the 22nd or 23rd, after the liquidation company has come in and set up shot.

Are they still taking return?

Have an web order coming in tomorrow but I might want to return it.

seems @ShinAkuma has answered by question, I guess I have 30 days to return it.

So why do they have big signs that say nothing held back, yet things like Legos and diapers are not part of the liquidation?

Those are generic signs that all stores use for liquidation, not just TRU.

As a kid I loved buying nintendo games. You has to pull the little slip and take it to the cashier to purchase. And then after purchase you take the slip and the receipt to a little window and someone goes and pulls you game.

I felt so cool and happy walking up to that window.

We don't really know yet. All we know is that other stores had them for around 10% off already. I definitely wouldn't expect to see big discounts on consoles though.

I really wish my TRU would just dig a bunch of these out of their back room and I could buy these during the liquidation sale! I loved going to TRU as a kid and seeing this display and grabbing the slips. TRU has not been the same for many years now, but what is even sadder to me is that kids growing up won't get to experience the magic of Toys R Us like we did.

Is that 10% off for console also applies to accessories or accessories have different discount? Really love to nab the Switch Pro Controller down the road with bigger discount.

I don't know if they'd bothering selling them, but those pouches are still used for bikes and the like.

According to USA Today, the liquidation sale begins Thursday, March 22nd (Tomorrow, as of this posting). The sales will go clear through til June, presumably with stores closing as they sell out of things.

While I'm sad to see the stores close, I'll be there right away to take advantage of this opportunity.

By the time the discounts are really deep you'll be hard pressed to find anything worthwhile, I went a couple times over the past week and it was a crazy shit show off people thinking sales had started already

Not even going to bother going at opening tommorrow, I can expect a lot of gross people to be lining up and overall being nasty to each other for $20 bucks off a game or two.

If even that, it's probably gonna start at 10%

Yeah, I don't imagine it will be worth going at open tomorrow, if at all. If it isn't too busy on my way home from work tomorrow I am going to stop in and check it out, but I will not bother if it is busy.

Yeah I've done a fair amount of shopping at going out of business sales over the years.  It will usually start at like 10% and then slowly go up a bit (hence the closeout being ongoing until June).  For anyone on this website my guess is this sale won't have prices we care about for a little while yet.

Just saw something interesting on the news. Supposedly KB Toys might take place of TRU. Now take it with a grain of salt but just thought that was interesting to hear.

That KB Toys thing is just pop up stores for Black Friday through Christmas. It's going to be like the Spirit Halloween stores.

Would it be correct to assume that price-matching in-store would end today with liquidation starting tomorrow? Thanks
