Why do controller charge cables just stop working after a while?

I usually keep my PS4 controller plugged in to the console via a 6-8ft Monoprice USB cord.
I do this to remove any wire control latency and not have to worry about my controller dying mid game.

However, after months of doing this.. usually the cable will no longer change the controller. It will keep the controller charged, but if I unhook and plug it back in, to either charge it or sync it.. it won't do either... but it will keep the controller charged only enough.

I've heard from multiple people this is a common issue.. but what does it happen?
What causes the cord to randomly stop charging and syncing the controller.. and why when it is plugged in does it stay charged, but doesn't recharge?

So when I need to recharge or re-sync I use a 3-4 ft cord I got years ago and for some reason it never stopped working, but I don't play with that cord connected.

I usually go with Monoprice

Weird thing is, the cords still work fine to charge everything else.

I think you broke the micro USB port in the PS4 controller. Or there's some dirt or dust in the port, usually this.

Well I have a older 3-4 ft cord I've had for a long time, it has a velcro strap.

It still charges the PS4 controller just fine.. but the blue one I bought for it does not https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13924

That blue one WILL charge everything else though.. but I will try cleaning it.

So I use rubbing alcohol, or compressed air?

Yeah, in my experience micro usb cords are touchy. Some cords won't work on my PC with my Kindles. Some cords do. Anker is a good company, as it gets regular coverage on the sites I visit. A thick cord will do you well.

Yea, I tested the blue cord I own on all my devices..
It won't CHARGE the PS4 or XB1 controller... but will the other devices.

The green cord (same brand/make) is working fine, so is the premium Monoprice cord I own still working as well (Roommmates Cord)

I am just afraid if the cord is too thick/heavy it'll loosen the socket, since I like to keep it in my controller at 24/7. As I said I like to have it plugged in to keep it charged, and reduce any control latency.

I will admit though, the blue cord in question is absolutely tiny.

Thank you for the advice, I saw the same info.. that cord was extremely highly recommended but I like personal accounts.

There is a chip that regulates "over " charging for safety and sometimes they pair well generically and sometimes touchy
