Wombat, With Mass Effect coming out, how is that going to affect your Skyrim gaming?  How far are you into Skyrim?

Ship is off his rocker on the power cord.

If Nintendo  uses a mid-cord power brick design  like they have done with past consoles then it's a bad design for using the Switch on the go.  No one wants a power brick hanging in the air while they stretch their cord to reach the outlet.  I can't think of an example of a mid-cord power brick for portable devices except for the Gamepad on the Wii U and that was annoying and the Gamepad wasn't truly portable either.  I eventually bought  a 3rd party power supply for the Wii U Gamepad with the power brick at the end of the cord.

If they use a lighter weight power supply and cord for on the go then it can't power the console in the dock.

Thus they went with the compromise ie the wall wart and a bigger wall wart than is probably needed for using the Switch on the go.  But from the pics I saw in Ship's twitter, it's narrow enough to only cover up one outlet in a power strip.

The best solution would be to include 2 power supplies - a lighter wall wart for on the go and a heavier mid-cord one for docked, but that's pricey.  But there is always pressure to keep the price down in the console world and you don't need 2 power supplies so...

Who is unplugging the power cord from the dock once it is plugged in? I'd venture not the majority of people. They are going to set this up on their TV stand and never touch the cables again. If you want a separate power cable in the go, then sell a smaller one as this plug is in no way great for that either. Also, many surge protectors (mine included) have the outlets oriented vertically, so this type of plug takes up 3 outlets. I'll buy an extension cable so it's not a big deal, it's just something that I don't agree with design wise.

32gb seems reasonable.  Apple has that amt on their $650 iphones and they have no SD card slot.

The main way of buying games on a Switch is still going to be carts.

IF you're digital heavy consumer who downloads Dragon Quest Heroes then you're going to want  an SD card anyway even if the Switch had double the storage.

IF they increased the storage on the Switch every customer would pay more not just those that will only download games.

Lots of people are not going to use this in the dock much to begin with.

And if you never unplug your dock cord then you'll forget you have a wallwart in 1 week.

Cheapy, I love you man but sometimes you are the most predictable person on this podcast.  If there is a humblebrag opportunity to be taken, you'll take it every time.  It's pretty cheesy.  Want to know how to get Cheapy to talk about your comment/criticism on the show?  Just tell him he's too rich, spends too much money, too much of an elitist, etc.  You're guaranteed to get a response to that question which will consist mainly of him savoring those charges and refuting very little of it, while Wombat further strokes his ego by just saying "that's true" as if that's not exactly what Cheapy wants to hear.

As I've mentioned previously here, we bought a PSVR at launch and there's no doubt that it's an attention grabber when hosting others to your house and does make some people envious, especially our kids' friends.  After all it really is just a very expensive toy.  If you want to know in a nutshell why he bought the PSVR, that's most likely it right there. Remember, he mentioned the neighbor that was surprised a while back that he didn't already have VR so PSVR was likely purchased to fill in that gap.

If you're going to send him criticism full of 1% insults, just understand you really aren't insulting him at all.  His name may be "Cheapy" but he's determined to make sure everyone listening to him knows that he's upper crust...lol.

Love you Cheapy!

I lol'd when Cheapy was trying to defend himself and then proceeded to imply that people who clean houses for a living are not smart enough to hook up a PSVR.

joycon issue is kind of like someone telling you your plane is going to crash into the ocean in 10 minutes.   I hope it's not true. I'm already all in.

Time to give these guys a piece of my mind

[attachment=25626:stock-photo-cute-kid-sitting-on-toilet-with-laptop-38607865.jpg]

I tried the HTC Vive for my first time this week. It was okay, I don't get the hype though and have no desire to have one in my house. It would be fun at a rooftop party with the Switch every once in a while but I think I still prefer laying on the couch playing with a controller. It felt too much like playing a Wii or Kinect and I'm sick of motion controls.

"No one is taking a s... for the entire length of the show..."

YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME.

Thanks for the great podcast! Shipwrecks "Hogwarts 'Express' Pass" joke? I laughed.

Best part of the show was the GameStop question followed by the Switch talk... ie. gaming deals segments on a podcast known for gaming deals (and gaming talk).  Meanwhile, you guys didn't talk about ANY video games until the 44 minute mark.  With 34 minutes left, FINALLY some game talk.  I don't mind the off-topic stuff, but literally the bulk of each episode is 'whatcha been reading?' and the like.  Been listening since episode 1, would love to hear more gaming talk from you guys.  Thanks for keeping it going for so long, looking forward to hearing more hot takes on the industry this year.

I guess I am in the minority because I thought the Ghostbusters reboot was hilarious. I felt the humor was pretty easy to understand, but good enough to make me laugh. I thought some of the lines were very clever, too.

Haha, y'all are like the Fox News of video games when it comes to Nintendo, just no chill. Ten seconds of looking forward to Zelda, half an hour of hardware FUD and fretting about corporate performance. Whatever, at least some of us are excited.  :D/

Speaking of which, any chance you could help me find one of these things? I've been on the lookout for like a month, but still no dice. I don't wanna get mini'd again...

Oh btw Cheapy D they are releasing all teh harry potter movies in 4k.

So your son can watch the movies in glorious 4k

Lol. Cheapy saying Nintendo was overpricing their products and was about to use Apple as a comparison, but then he backpeddled and said that only some people would say that about Apple. I'm typing this on an iPhone but that was a funny bit.

32gb seems reasonable. Apple has that amt on their $650 iphones and they have no SD card slot.
There aren't games/apps on the iOS that already exceed 32gb. The Switch already has games that are larger than 32gb. That's pretty ridiculous. The Switch and iOS have two completely different sets of requirements, and what is ok for one may not be acceptable for the other.

Incidentally, the Apple community has been looking forward to Apple killing off the smaller size and making 64gb the new minimum.

lol. You gotta read the other 3 lines in my post and not just the first line.

The Switch has carts and SD storage. That's your different requirements. Because of the SD card slot and the fact most will buy carts, there is no reason for Nintendo to offer more storage than is necessary.

Besides, the more internal storage they include, the higher the pricepoint anyway, so either they charge everyone more and include more internal storage or they charge less and let just those that need more storage buy an SD card. Seems reasonable.

And a $650 iphone only having 32gb just shows that much more expensive mobile devices only have 32gb as well. I don't think Nintendo is being extra cheap here.

As a lifelong listener, I've always been hooked by the Cagcast's informative, yet comedic tone. I particularly enjoy the playful nature of the show. The guys bounce off of each other in a way reminiscent of Moe, Larry, and Curly. However, It seems that as of late, many people have been taking it way too seriously. Judging by many of the comments on twitter, one would think Cheapy, Wombat, and Ship are discussing topics akin to those you would hear on the O'Reilly Factor or The Lead with Jake Tapper. My advice to sensitive and disgruntled listeners - sit back in your mom's basement, have a wine cooler, and enjoy the show. These are 3 guys who share your same interests. They're allowed to have their opinions. I guarantee they're not taking it as seriously as you are. If they were, the majority of us would stop listening.

I love you guys, and Ship trust me I get all the complaints you mentioned on the Switch (and you rep the Cinci/NKY area, so I hardly ever disagree with you) but you continue to buy Nintendo products which make it ok for them to skimp on things like memory, stupid accessories allowing power adapters to work with the kick stand on, and product launches without being feature complete.  Let your wallet speak.

32GB for a game system is basically a joke in this generation. Fine for the Vita maybe? Nintendo could've at the very least done 64GB, I'd love to see the price difference on the internal memory.

Love you man, so I hate to shove your theory back up your butt, but here it goes. After the show I looked up what 1% actually means, and I'm not part of that club.

Also, I mentioned on the show I bought PSVR due to listener demand. What kind of asshole would buy something to impress people? Probably the same kind that would come up with that theory.
Love you man

Edit: also, how could you "love" someone who you thought behaved that way? That's the very definition of an asshole and someone I would not associate myself with. Oh well, this is why I don't usually read the comments.

Who cares about the hosts' finances!?! Do you pay for this show, do they owe you anything? smh

Im glad Cheapy bought the PSVR, even if it was for 2 weeks at least he got to talk about it, it's not his fault the hardware is a pain to hook-up and/or there aren't compelling games for him to play. I am also glad he is buying the Switch, I think we missed out on some good discussions last gen when Shipwreck was the only one with a Wii U.

lmao at buying new tech means you're part of the 1%. Stupid comment.

Shipwreck is being pedantic.

1.) the switch is not out and he is going by a picture

2.) the switch is a portable system and that means it needs to have the adapter at the plug. If it was in the shell, he would whine about the need to buy another one for travel

3.) it doesn't appear to be any larger than an nvidia shield adapter of which he said nothing.

cheapy can harp on price but neither the xbox one or ps4 is a portable system. They are limited. Compared the tablets, Switch is competitively priced, similar memory and actually has decent controllers.  The switch is a portable system you can play at home, it's not a home system you can take with you.

also, we have a house cleaner that comes once every 2 weeks. It's not that much and well worth it.

Except the Switch isn't being positioned as a portable system, but rather a home console that you can take with you. Once I plug the cable into the dock and then into the wall, it's never leaving that position.

I never plugged my Shield into an outlet behind my TV stand and the Shield plug is designed much differently. It's more like a standard USB adapter like what an iPhone uses. This makes it so it wouldn't block other outlets with the box or the way the cable attaches to the box.

I thought you were exaggerating about the size of the power adapter… That was until I actually saw a picture of it. That thing is a fucking brick!

I'm looking forward to you guys let us know how Zeldas next week or the week after.

I appreciate the candor that all you bring to the podcast. Cheapy, you like the unsung hero of video game journalism in an oddball way. You buy just about every piece of expensive video game shit or video game ... price be damned and give us listeners your unfiltered opinions on it. Taking those $60-$499 hits to the wallet that fewer gamers can dare to stomach... The irony that most listeners or readers fail to realize is that this website could never be truly successful unless you truly were intent on providing a service...helping others...

Meaning that this site would have died a long time ago if cheapy was truly was a selfish asshole.

So keep buying those video games and those expensive peripherals because I need something to listen to while taking that hour long shit! Lol

Cheapy is once again stuck on Metacritic scores.  Just watch or play something that looks interesting to you.  Yes, you'll be disappointed at times but you also wont miss out on something just because someone else didn't like it.

It's not just choosing downloadable retail games. It's eShop, it's DLC, it's Virtual Console, it's game updates, it's system updates, it's any media apps, it's screen captures. That 32 GB is going to go quick for everyone.

trip1eX, I'm well aware about how easy it is to expand storage on the Switch. You thinking 32GB is acceptable doesn't match my opinion when you compare to other game consoles, where you're talking about 500GB minimum. It's Nintendo again being cheap, and not a consumer friendly company (as discussed on the show). We'll just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

That's a terrible comparison. Switch is portable. Impossible for it to have a 500gb hard drive. There are also no forced game installs from physical media on the Switch either unlike the PS4.

Love the show. Keep up the good work.

Good point. But I had 32gb of storage on the Wii U and that was fine for a few years until I got a bunch of free 1st party Wii U games from club points and had to attach an old hard drive if I didn't want to redownload stuff.

Since the Switch is just a portable Wii U I don't expect my experience to dramatically change. I downloaded my share of eshop, DLC and VC on the Wii U. I don't expect to need extra storage anytime soon on the Switch.

That seems like my experience on other devices as well. PS4, Iphone and Mac for example. I didn't opt for the option with the most storage because it cost more $$$$. And now my PS4 is getting kind of full but I will probably delete stuff instead of buying more storage. I have to delete stuff on my iPHone and can't upgrade the storage. Next model I get will need more storage but will cost more. ON the Mac I eventually got a bigger SSD because space was getting tight after a few years.

As someone whom loved Nintendo in the past, (owned an NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, DS, Virtual Boy, etc.) I saw the WiiU come out and was waiting on a price drop that never happened. After watching the system only last 4 years before getting completely replaced without even back compatability, I obviously have no desire to own it since Mario Kart is proof that they plan to remaster and resell WiiU games on the Switch.

My question is to the Nintendo defenders in here. I preordered a Switch and then cancelled my preorder when I saw the full launch title list. My fear is that the Switch flops in the next 4 years and they abandon it like the WiiU, is there any comfort that they won't? The WiiU is the first Nintendo system I haven't purchased, would love to get back on board but they seem like they still don't know exactly what they are going for, system wise.

It seems like it's one of those Jack of all trades, master of nine things. It's portable but not as portable as the 3DS or Vita or a cell phone. It's a console but not as much of one as the PS4 or Xbox One, it has online, sort of. It has digital available but not enough storage to store much.

Great CagCast!  I loved the story at the end about the cycle of life at Gamestop. Some really worrying times for that shop.  If you haven't seen the Mega64 video about it I'd highly recommend it.
