Well it was just a matter of time before it happened. Amazon will start charging gross receipts tax in NM for orders starting next month. Read the article in the local newspaper this morning. Don't know how many CAGs there are here in NM. Just a heads up.

Man, you guys gotta be the last state to have that happen. I remember several years back being happy that my state was one where Amazon didn't charge tax. Then, they started collecting tax here 2-3 years ago. I'm honestly amazed there were any states left where they didn't charge tax upfront. Sucks for you...but be thankful that you were able to hold out that long.

True, in the article it said they were already charging tax in 41 states and D.C. It doesn't hurt as much here because the gross receipts tax is still fair compared to other states (looking at you Cali, Texas and, NY). I am thankful that it did take this long before it happened. Might have to pre-order some other games I want before it kicks in, lol

I don't know where you live, but I don't live in ABQ or SF so when I buy things from best buy or target online I'm only charged 5% tax. Walmart charges me 8%. I wonder if it will be 5 or 8 for amazon.

I live in ABQ and the tax is about 7.2 percent, not too bad all things considered. If I remember correctly the gross receipts tax varies by city, county, and/or municipality. Rio Rancho is in Sandoval county and theirs is slightly higher than ABQ. I don't get why Walmart charges more tax with their online orders. I've ordered from Best Buy online and can estimate the tax on orders within a few cents of the actual amount.

You should be happy your state held out this long.

Not only has California been charging tax for awhile, our sales tax is also incredibly high. :*(

Not just CA and NY. Even here in TN our sales tax is 9.75%. However, we don't have state income tax. So, that helps at least.
Ouch, that stings a bit. I remember some CAGs living in TX talking high the tax is there. Compared to most any other state, NM still has it fairly light when it comes to the gross receipts tax. Problem is folks here are living a good ways below the poverty line and can hardly afford basic necessities. So even seven cents on the dollar here in ABQ can make a huge difference for lot of needy and low-income people.

Yeah, it's not really just the sales tax that hurts in CA, but every other tax on top of it, so we hurt doubly more. T___T
Yeah, which is why Cali is a state I like to visit. I wouldn't dare move there because of the high cost of living. And getting mega taxed on everything certainly doesn't help matters.

Yep I live in AR and amazon just started charging sales tax March 1st.  Luckly I got most of my preorders b4 March 1st and found out they do not charge sales tax even after March 1st.

The good news is that I live near the borders of two other states and they sales tax is not as much so I can ship it to one of my relatives house w/o getting hit w/ sales tax in my state which is way higher in AR.

I don't recall when Amazon here started charging sales tax..but where I live (this includes the city I live in; GA state sales tax is 4%) the tax is 6%. I think Amazon only charges the state tax though.

Still stings a little bit. ^^

I'm surprised they don't tax the we smog breath in California, I'm sure it's in there somewhere in some hidden form.

I think it's funny that they want to increase the gas tax and car registrations when it's already implemented but never fully usedOn what it's intended for. The problem with most people here in this state is that they are already bent over holding there ankles and asking to get another.

You are taxed on smog in the form of your healthcare costs. Plus you also have smog checks. That's a cost that other states don't have. I moved from CA to NM and I don't think you realize (or maybe you do) how much cheaper the cost of living is in almost every way, not just about taxes.
