Mass Effect: Need to play original trilogy before Andromeda?

So I've got Mass Effect preordered for $38 from the Visa Checkout promo.

But I haven't played the original trilogy, just a little of ME2.

Should I hold off on Andromeda and play the originals?

My backlog is massive of course - this is CAG - but $38 is a good deal right?

Any advice?

The new one takes place hundreds of years after the originals, and from what I've heard is pretty separated from the events of the original trilogy, aside from sharing the same universe. The trilogy is great and worth playing, but I wouldn't be too worried about playing through it first.
