they're still adding more updates and dlc (like mp coop mode and extra stories). wait until the game is actually finished, if you're thinking about picking it up.
i had the game since release, i'll wait until i can fully enjoy it as a whole.

I rented it from gamefly, I really didn't expect to like it, I haven't played a final fantasy since 10 and 11. I still didn't like it the first hour or so, really disliked the fighting mechanics and story telling.
Next thing you know I'm 10 hours in and my overall experience is that I do enjoy it, the combat is a little deeper than I thought. I'm returning it next week but I'll buy it in the future for sure.

No need to wait. All extra content will be accessible from the main menu so you won't need to replay anything and can just jump right in to it as it's released and since it'll be free there is no extra "value" from a complete version except having it on the disc.

It actually make sense to get the game now as many of the DLC are timed and no longer accessible any more.

i prefer to play everything in a single playthrough, cause i will never return to the game after beating it.
once that disc comes out, it'll never go back in is what i'm saying.

as in? if you're only talking about the holiday carnival, i highly doubt it's anything worth mentioning.

If you haven't played it, you aren't missing much.
Combat is button mashing, dlc looks weak too.
Maybe button mashing if you play on easy or normal and exploit the lvling system.

As the game progresses, you definitely can't rely on button mashing as you will be killed in battle in a pinch.
I bought this two months ago at exactly $35 after GCU, WAY more fun than FFXIII. Obviously a different experience to everything before it, and you can just get lost.

Or hard
Or blindfolded
Or on Tuesdays
It's still button mashing.

The combat is full of QTEs and looks better than it plays, but it's hardly button mashing. It's basically still a turn-based game, except you hold square to automatically dodge/phase when it's not your "turn" so to speak. I guess you can spam random shit if you want, but you can do that in any game.

I still couldn't get past the whole battle system aspect of the game. I guess I'm old school turn based and I've come to accept they will never go back to turn based with the final fantasy series.

You will be waiting a while for GOTY. The second DLC is out in June, and they just confirmed a 5th DLC. And I think in one interview they said they would like to keeping adding DLC for a while, since they have more ideas(basically fans suggest something, then the devs come out and say (paraphrase) "yeah, we were thinking about that and there is interest so it may happen"

I'm going to brag now. Found a used copy at a thrift store yesterday for $15. Planned on starting it today or tomorrow. So excited.

They patched the hell out of this game. Would much rather wait for a GOTY edition.

I got the game on release day and tried to force myself to enjoy it, however I stil, couldn't. The music is done entirely wrong as it doesn't set the tone for the various tasks or events. It kind of kills getting emotionally involved. I'd say FFX did the best with that part.

Same boat. I think I will probably buy this again when it's 19.99 down the line and throw it in the backlog in case I ever get that urge.

The only way it resembles turn based is if you set attack to Wait which f*cks the warp system and even then it's just a pause screen.
