All credit for this contest idea goes to @Freamwhole from Zed to Zed, the website and podcast dedicated to achievement hunting.  He's got a similar contest going at the site, and I'm straight up stealing the idea.

Here's how the contest will work:  I will post 12 different categories below.  Starting May 1st through May 31st, any achievements/trophies (from now on, I'll refer to them as A/T's) you unlock that fit the requirements of any of the categories can be submitted.  You'll receive entries into the contest based on the gamerscore of the A/T (If a trophy for a PS exclusive game is used, it will be scored 10 for bronze, 30 for silver, 100 for gold, and 200 for platinum. If the game is available on both XB and PS, the score will reflect the XB gamerscore, with the exception that platinum trophies will always be worth 200).  If you are the only person to submit that particular A/T, you'll get the full score.  If multiple people submit the same A/T, score for it will be divided between them.  For example, you submit a 20 GS achievement for the first category, and are the only one to submit it, you get 20 entries.  However, if 5 other people also submit it, each person will get 4 entries (20 divided by 6= 3.33; I'll always round up)  To keep entries secret, you'll submit them to me via pm, not in this thread.  You'll want to be registered on trueachievements.com and/or truetrophies.com so you can send me links to the A/T's you unlock as your entries.

For example, if one of the categories was "Unlock an achievement that has a word with double O's in it, such as "book", "look", "balloon", etc.", you could pm me a link like this.

UPDATE:  A couple quick things I forgot to mention.  Please only submit one A/T per category.  If you find several A/T's that fit a particular category, that's great, but you have to choose just one to submit.  Also, you don't need to submit them as you unlock them.  The deadline for unlocking them is May 31st, but I'll give people until June 7th to get their entries organized and pm them to me.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ENTRIES: A/T's can only be submitted for one category, even if they qualify under more than one.  For example, if there was somehow an A/T titled "Dad, would you please pass the big tub of popcorn?", it would qualify for category 2 (question), 4 ("pass"), 5 ("Dad"), 6 ("Big"), 8 ("Big"), 11 ("Popcorn"), or 12 (ten words), but you would have to choose just one to submit it for.

Here are the categories.  You don't need to complete them all; you can enter the contest with a single A/T unlocked from any of the categories, but the more categories you unlock, the more entries you get.

1. Starvin' Marvin- Unlock an A/T with a 2 word title with words that rhyme.

2. Do the Handicapped Go To Hell?- Unlock an A/T with a title that is a question.

3. ManBearPig- Unlock an A/T that has a mammal in it's title.

4. Sarcastaball- Unlock an A/T with a sports-related word in it's title

5. Tsst!- Unlock an A/T with a palindrome in it's title (a word that reads the same forward and backward; i.e. "Mom", "Dad", "radar", etc.)

6. The Biggest Douche In the Universe- Unlock an A/T that has either the word "Big", "Bigger", or "Biggest" in it's title

7. Red Badge of Gayness- Unlock an A/T that has a color in it's title

8. The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers- Unlock an A/T that has the name of a movie in it's title (Keep in mind that lots of movies have one word titles)  Your A/T must contain the full title, including words like "A", "An", or "The".

9. Ass Burgers- Unlock an A/T whose title is a pun or a play on words

10. Elementary School Musical- Unlock an A/T that has a music-related word in it's title

11. Royal Pudding- Unlock an A/T that has a kind of food in it's title

12. I Should Have Never Gone Ziplining- Unlock an A/T whose title is 6 words or longer

I know this is an unusual contest, and it doesn't really start until the beginning of May, but is there any interest in it?  Anyone planning to take a shot, looking at their backlog achievement lists?  Or is this D.O.A?

It's awful quiet out here.  :whistle2:

So there doesn't seem to be any interest in this contest.  I'm thinking about shutting it down and deleting the thread.  Posting now to bump it.  I'll leave it up at least through the weekend, to see if anyone has any questions about it, or wants to weigh in on it at all.

Ha, this gave me a chuckle. But really, it's not that hard. I mean, you're playing games and unlocking achievements or trophies anyway. Go back and look at what you unlocked in March; you'd probably be able to check off 2 or 3 of these categories just by accident. If you happen to do that in May, then it's just a matter of pm-ing me a couple quick links, and boom, you're entered. :D/

This sounds rather interesting. I'd love to try it. Especially for my most anticipated Game of the year.

Thanks, and I'm right there with you. This is my most anticipated game of the year, too.

How many are you looking for to enter this? And are you having people confirm before it starts?
Nope, nobody needs to confirm that they'll be participating. As far as how many entries I'm looking for...whenever I do a contest, my feeling is the more people that enter, the better. I like the idea of a contest that involves more than just posting in a thread or retweeting something (nothing against contests like that; I've run a few myself), and I thought this might be fun. So far, only three people have posted in here expressing interest, and only 5 people besides me are following the thread. Maybe that's all there will be for entries. If so, that's pretty good odds for the few people who do enter. :)

I posted this as early as I did to give people time to check achievement and trophy lists in their backlogs, plan a strategy of what games to play and what to try to unlock in May, and ask any general questions there might be about the contest, but that may also be the reason the thread has been a ghost town- it technically doesn't start until a week from today. We'll see. I am going to leave it up, though, and if it turns out I'm running a contest for just three or four people, oh well.

Very nice of you. So as it seems anything already unlocked counts as well correct?

Very nice of you. So as it seems anything already unlocked counts as well correct?
No. Achievements or trophies you currently have unlocked do not count. They have to be unlocked during the month of May. The link to trueachievements.com or truetrophies.com acts as a time stamp, proof that it was unlocked by you, during the qualifying time period (May)

So only those unlocked in may I take it, right?
You are correct, sir!

By the way, if anyone has any questions about whether a specific A/T would be acceptable for a given category, feel free to ask me in a pm.  If you've got one that stretches things a bit, I'll let you know if I'd accept it or not.

In the contest on Zed to Zed that I stole this idea from, one of the categories is an achievement with a pet in the title.  I unlocked an achievement called "Cash Cow", and I thought, well, maybe if you lived on a farm.... I sent a pm asking if that would be OK, and was told no, a cow is not a pet.  I didn't think it would be accepted, but it didn't hurt to ask.  I asked him again about another one I unlocked that had the word "mongrel" in it, and he said he'd accept that one.  So now I know I've got that category covered.

Probably won't participate (very busy with new job), but I really like this idea. If you do it again in a few months or next year, I'd definitely participate.

Edit: Can't get this contest out of my head. I'll find the time!

Cool, I hope you do. This really doesn't need to be a super time-intensive thing. You've got the whole month of May to work with- target a specific achievement or two, and you could unlock them in 15 minutes of gaming. Depending on how many people end up entering this, that could be all it takes to give you a decent chance.

Speaking of which, here's a Time Saving Pro Tip:

Log in at Trueachievements.com (or Truetrophies.com) and under your name, click "My Achievements" (or "My Trophies"), and when the list comes up, set it to show you only the ones you haven't unlocked yet. Makes it easier to scroll through them and find ones that might fit one of the categories.

It's got the greenlight.  No idea how many people will be taking part, but I've decided to leave it up and run the contest.  If it gets a big response with a lot of people entering, I'll probably do more contest like this.  if very few people enter, it will be a one and done.  But this one, at least, is on.

Posting to bump this back up, and remind anyone who is interested that you can now start unlocking A/Ts to fill in the categories with.

And thanks very much to whoever gave this thread a 1 star rating.  You could have just not entered, but then how would I know there was a segment of the community who are unhappy about being given a chance to win a $60 game, free of charge, as long as there is a minimal bit of effort required?  Your feedback has been noted and will be taken into consideration when I'm deciding whether to do more contests in the future.

Let the gaming begin! Good luck to everyone participating in this fun giveaway by Danimal! Don't pay any mind to the person who voted 1-star on this thread. Thanks again for the opporturnity.

I have a couple questions about this.

Will you disqualify people that make.new gamertags just for this contest?

If someone shares an achievement someone else did will you let them know? And if so do they get a chance to change their choice?

You're welcome. As for my little rant yesterday, I'm embarrassed about it because it was passive-aggressive and whiney. Normally, I wouldn't be so bothered by the one star vote, but after having a long, crappy week last week, I guess it hit me wrong. Oh well.

Your gamertag shouldn't make a difference because if you pm me a link like the example I gave in the op of this thread, it has to be from your tag. You couldn't send me a link like that to one of my own achievements, or anyone else's, so that link becomes proof that it's from you. As long as every A/T you submit comes from the same gamertag, they'll all count. My gamertag is different than my CAG username, and I assume lots of other peoples are as well.

As far as letting people know if they've submitted an A/T that someone else has submitted, I'm not going to send people an alert when/if it happens, but I'm happy to answer any questions people ask me about that. If anyone wants to know if a particular A/T has been submitted, they can ask me via pm, and I'll give them a yes or no answer. (I won't answer in the thread) Submissions aren't final until the June 7th deadline, so they can be changed if you unlock something better or find out other people have unlocked the same A/T.

I know that you can't link others achievements. But people can always make a new account to unlock an achievement they may have unlocked already.

Yeah, I don't care if it's a new account or a 10 year old account or anything in between.  As long as the A/Ts are all unlocked in May under one name, that's really the only part that matters.  If you feel like you can fill more categories by creating a new account and unlocking things you've gotten before under your main tag, I have no problem with that.

I was emphasizing that they all need to be under one gamertag because, let's say you were able to unlock A/Ts for 5 of the categories in May under your main tag, but you had old A/Ts for 3 or 4 more that you'd unlocked prior to May- making a new account to re-unlock those and add them to the 5 categories in your submission would get your entry disqualified, because whatever you submit all needs to be under the same gamertag.

It would need to have a music-related word in it.  For instance, "Piano Man" or "Immigrant Song" I would accept.  "Welcome to the Jungle" would be a no.

If you're still not sure if what you have in mind would be acceptable, you can ask me specifically in a pm and I'll let you know.  That offer goes for anyone who has one that they're not sure would be acceptable for any of the categories.

Someone sent me a pm with a question about Category 8 (the one that asks you to unlock an A/T with a movie title in it's name), so I wanted to quickly clarify it a bit.  The A/T must contain all of the words in the movie's title, including "A", "An", or "The".  For example, if you unlocked the achievement "Deer Hunter" from SpecOps: The Line, it would not qualify for the movie "The Deer Hunter" because it's missing the word "The".

I've edited the description of category 8 in the OP to make this clearer.

I will probably pm all my entries on June 1st, after looking at all my trophies from May 1st-31st.

Hope I hit all categories without looking :)

Glad I checked the free section for once. I'm definitely in.  Not sure how good I'll do, but it will at least make me play some stuff in my backlog.

On a side note... After seeing your sig, I now know the CAG who's drivatar runs me off the road.

Yeah, considering the less than super skillful way I drive in FH3, my drivatar must be quite a dick. Sorry about that. In real life, I'm a fairly courteous driver and hardly ever run anyone off the road.

In all honesty it doesn't seem like the Drivatars race too bad in FH3... More so that they just are always in the damn way. I remember I was doing a drift zone and kept having to rewind because every time it hit me in the last corner. Finally I gave up, let him go through the zone to start again only to have another one show up.

I feel like the drivatars in Forza Motorsport games are a thousand times worse. They will just run you into a corner and off the track every time.

I'll be competing in this and will be PM'ing you my achievements soon.

I'm new to TrueAchievements tho, so how do I send you the link of an achievement that has my name on it? Do I just go to the list of my achievements unlocked, click on the achievement, then send you the link of that achievement while logged in?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. If you sign in at TA, there's that drop-down menu you can click on by your name. Click on "My Achievements", then from your list of achievements, click on the one you want to submit for one of the categories. Right click to copy the address in your address bar, then paste the link in your pm to me. Make sure you let me know which category you're submitting each A/T for. Something like this: Category 11 (Food)

Alright, cool

Also, I have a question on two achievements categories:

a) For the "mammal" one, does it matter if the mammal is fictional or not?

b) For the "palindrome" one, one-letter palindromes count, right (like "I" and "A")?

Those are interesting questions. I had to think about both of them a little. Here's how I come down on them:

a) The mammal must be a real mammal. No Griffins, Manticores, or Snuffleupaguses will be accepted.

b) One letter palindromes do not count. Technically, I guess the words "I" and "A" fit the definition of a palindrome, but this is a "letter of the law vs. spirit of the law" issue for me; it would be defeating the purpose of having a palindrome category since finding an achievement with the word "A" in it would be about as challenging as finding a McDonald's that serves Big Macs.

Can't use The Swappers achievements. Already asked. :p

Alright, thanks for the quick response. I just realize that taking out part of the achievement name still leaves me with a mammal, so that'll work regardless.

Guess I'll start looking for the palindrome one tho

can that work? are you suggesting something like werewolf? dont think you can use part of a word.

can that work? are you suggesting something like werewolf? dont think you can use part of a word.
Something like werewolf would not work. The mammal word has to be the full word, not part of a longer word. Same goes for the other categories, so something like "REDline" would not work for the color category, or "BATtery" would not work for the sports word category, etc. I'm guessing there will be a few entries in the final submissions that I'll end up not accepting for one reason or another. As always, if anyone wants to know for sure if a specific A/T would be acceptable for a certain category, you can always ask me in a pm and I'll let you know.

Just wanted to bump this thread up with a quick reminder post that we're down to the last few days of May, which means the last few days to try and unlock A/Ts for the categories.  You don't have to wait until June to pm me your entries if you're finished unlocking stuff for the contest.  Entries can be submitted any time up until June 7th.  I'm really curious to see how many entries I get.  Could be 2 or 3, could be 30 or 40.  I have no idea what to expect.  I hope at least a few people have had some fun with this.

I've filled out an achievement for all but 3 categories, and I'm currently playing through BioShock for the first time, so I might be able to finish those by the end of the month
