Looks like Everybody's Golf is coming up as $49.99 at most places. Best deal so far seems to be 20% off at Best Buy...any chance EB will have a sale this year? Still can't believe they never compete for sales during E3.
Any time a website gives you 20% off a pre-order, they are making $0 on the sale. If they offer you a bigger discount, they are PAYING you to get the game from them. Amazon and Best Buy do it in hopes of getting you to buy other things that actually DO make them money (that was the point of last year's Reward Zone points deal), and it obviously works, at least a little bit, or they wouldn't do it. While EB does sell lots of non-gaming items now, they're still about 75% games, and they aren't stupid enough to give away all their profits like that to the, let's face it, very small percentage of clientele that actively hunts E3 deals.
That said, they're doing some VERY good trade deals this year. Every $12+ trade gets bumped up to $26.67 towards a pre-order. That means you can turn what would otherwise be $36 of trade payment into a $79.99 game, which is basically $44 off, or a savings of up to 55%, which blows 20% out of the water.
Alternatively, you can get $10 extra for any trade towards an E3 pre-order. This is good for games that trade between $5 and $11 which don't qualify for the above deal, and for games that trade for $17 or more, which benefit more from this promo than from the one above. This deal also includes PS3 and XB360 games, so I'm going to trade in a few $5 PS3 games for $15 each toward some $49.99 pre-orders on the 3DS. I have a chance to get rid of some worthless (to me) games and get 20% off my new games in return.
