Shipwreck deserves way more shit than the zero that he was dealt for his pronunciation of Nex Machina.

It's a play on the fairly well-known Latin expression, Deus Ex Machina. Pronounced "DAY-oos Ex MOCK-in-uh."

I was really hoping for Wombat to jab him a bit for this, as it seems like the sort of thing he'd know, and welcome the opportunity to be the one dishing it out for once instead of constantly taking it from the other guys.

I also just started getting weird disconnects on my PS4 controllers. It's usually preceded by massive input lag. No idea why, other than maybe related to an external hard drive I recently installed.

Pretty much agree on the who "won" E3 talk.

The Microsoft conference was a complete joke. I also don't think they gave any reason at all to get an X. I would be tempted at $399 but $499 is ridiculous.

I've had an X1 since launch and recently picked up a ps4 to be my main console. I got the Uncharted 4 bundle and that game is freaking amazing! Can't wait to start Horizon and of course Spider-man can't come soon enough. Lots of exclusives coming out this year and next for the ps4 while the Xbox 1 is dry. Too bad.

I don't really understand all of the confusion around the XBOX One X.   It's an "XBOX One" and the box is going to have information on it like plays all XBOX One games.  It's not like a consumer will be buying a console that has nothing on the box.  I see no difference between the X and the Pro.  The Wii U confusion shows that slapping a letter on the end of the system makes people think it is in the same family.

Also, the console is for the same people that will buy a 4k television at $5,000 or a controller for $150.  It's a premium system that ups the XBOX brand by allowing Microsoft to say the XBOX is the most powerful gaming console and show games that look really good.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's the Chevy Corvette or Dodge Viper of gaming consoles - a premium product in an otherwise economy line.

The other thing that is overlooked is that in a year or two, you won't be able to find a 1080p television.  If you are buying a new tv, you will be buying a 4k tv and will likely be looking for 4k content.  The XBOX One X is the only system that allows you to play 4k games, watch 4k blu-rays and watch 4k streaming.  The price may also be $100 cheaper at that point.  It's clearly now a mass market product now, but a year from now, when people may be looking to upgrade, they will be in a good spot.  Keep in mind, they announced 22 console exclusives which should also be out in a year or so.  Ans MS is killing Sony on the multiplayer front.  Pretty much every game that Sony announced was a third person action adventure game.  MS announced a wider range and variety of games including stream friendly games like Sea of Thieves and Battlegrounds.  I know a lot of "hardcore" gamers poo-poo multiplayer games, but  the best selling games this year are For Honor and Ghost Recon.  Rainbow Six is still going strong and Call of Duty is always at the top of the charts.

Lastly, the X isn't available for pre-order because they are waiting for approval from the FCC. They likely waited to submit it to avoid leaks, but who knows, it could be bad planning.

Sorry for the wall of text.

Long time fan of the podcast and website but I disagree with the negativity toward the Xbox One X. Let me say, I currently don't plan on purchasing one and I do agree that currently they have not given people a real reason to purchase one. Hardware wise this thing is a beast, it just doesn't have exclusive software to back it up. I believe if Microsoft had wowed with some fantastic looking software, it would be a different story. Anthem looks like it could be that, but again not exclusive. Exclusive software may not matter as much as it used to but they should still keep pace with what Sony is doing. They are not. Halo and Gears landed flat last time and those are supposed to be the system sellers. They have also not fully invested in creating new IP for the Xbox One. Sunset Overdrive should have been that game and if you look at what Insomniac is doing with Spider-Man, makes me wish they got an opportunity to make a 'Super Sunset Overdrive'.

Marketing wise, the Xbox One X has yet to make its real marketing push, especially since it is not available for pre-orders as of yet. The goal that Microsoft is doing is to expand the Xbox One user base which I believe they will with this holiday push. They will market the Xbox One S aggressively with bundles and price drops. Xbox One X will be a premium device and not for the masses, yet. The common theme is that Microsoft is trying to do what Apple has done with the iPhone/iPad. Apple has higher priced items because people will buy it, even if they don't need it. Trust me, it happens. If you go the the Apple Store, you will see an 75 year old retired person drop $700 on something just so they can look at Facebook and Facetime.

The one idea I had that might be a win/win for Microsoft is breaking up the price of the system into 24 month payments. If you take an Xbox One X + 2 years of Xbox Live Gold = $719.97 / 24 = $29.99 plus throw in Xbox Live Game Pass for the 24 months ($240 value) and it is actually a pretty good deal. It keeps that consumer with your product for 2 years. Xbox Live per a month is $9.99 a month and most users get that anyway. The Game Pass inclusion keeps a large number of games included with the package which is a great sell to families. Microsoft would have to work with select retailers to set this up but it is continuing generating revenue for that location. Payments can be done online or at the store, which causes foot traffic.

Not justifying The Mummy but they did explain why the mummy wanted Tom Cruise. He was the one who awakened her so he was cursed.

The negativity I was mentioning was about the Xbox plan in general. The actual plan is to sell more Xbox One S, not Xbox One X at this time. You can be positive about what is actually in the hardware but be critical about software. I should have been more clear in mentioning the negative criticism towards Xbox and not just the software.

I understand you are excited about your new PlayStation 4 with playing a game that came out over a year ago, a game that came out earlier this year and a game that we both know honestly is not coming out in the time frame they are saying for next year.

It also depends what you are looking for in E3. Are you looking for what is really coming out in the next 12 months or is it more for beyond that. Sony has a habit of showing projects that go beyond the 12 months which does get many people excited. For 2017, it is 2 expansion packs to popular games and a re-remaster/remake to a PS2 game. Majority will be on the backs of third party, for both platforms. Microsoft has Forza Motorsport 7 and Crackdown 3.

I understand what you are saying and you do make some good points.

First, it's important to understand that I don't have some console warrior-esque allegiance to Microsoft or Sony. I'm a huge fan of Microsoft, Nadella, and the Xbox division (also a huge fan of Azure and Windows). I use their services and purchase their products. I think Sony is pretty much a joke of a company outside of the Playstation division and I think their Playstation execs are arrogant arses. I play video games as a form of entertainment, not as a form of supporting one company or another. This means, I will purchase/use the console that offers me the most entertainment. It's really that simple.

Here is where I am going to disagree with you, "The actual plan is to sell more Xbox One S, not Xbox One X at this time." That's not accurate. The goal of the Xbox division and largely Microsoft as a whole is to move users from single purchases to recurring purchases e.g. Xbox Live, Office 365, Azure et. al. When it comes to Xbox, the primary services are obviously Live and Games Pass. Both of those services are available on the Xbox One, the Xbox One S, and the Xbox One X. Microsoft's goal is to get user paying for those services by first selling them a console...any console. Microsoft didn't invest millions into the development of the Xbox One X in order to not sell them from day one.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has made a couple of huge mistakes with the 1X. The first mistake is pricing. $499 is too high, and yes $100 makes a huge difference. At this point in the generation, Microsoft has done an amazing job releasing services and features that are pretty great e.g. EA Access, Games Pass, Mixer/streaming integration, Looking for Groups etc. etc. They also have a pretty good library of console exclusives. Lots of gamers who have been Playstation only this gen were really interested in the Xbox One X. Everything I mentioned before plus being a beast of console is really attractive to those who flipped from the 360 to the PS4 this gen. Not at $499 though. It's too high of a price point.

It's also too high of a price point when it's competition is the PS4 Pro, which is selling for $399 (probably $350 with a pack in this fall when the 1X launches).

The second mistake is making the USP "4k games". It's great that the 1X is a premium product and fun to talk about how good the games look at 4k. Here is the deal, very few people have a 4k tv. From what I can tell estimates were at 15% for the end of 2016. My guess is that over half of the people considering or actually buying a 1X will be using it on a 1080p tv. Now, outside of 4k games, what's another reason to get the 1X? There literally isn't one. The obvious answer would be Xbox exclusive games. Well, there are very few of those. You mentioned Crackdown and Forza 7. Ok sure those will be great games (Forza will be great...Crackdown....maybe). Two games will not influence people to the 1X. Ok, what about 2018? How does the first half look? Not good. On that same note, people aren't going to buy a 1X because there are apparently 22 indie games coming out that will launch first exclusively on the Xbox.

Sure, the 1X is a beautiful beast of a console. Unfortunately, Microsoft gave no one outside of a few people a reason to purchase the 1X.

I understand you are excited about your new PlayStation 4 with playing a game that came out over a year ago, a game that came out earlier this year and a game that we both know honestly is not coming out in the time frame they are saying for next year.

I would suggest not going the games route.

As you mentioned, yes I am excited for a game that came out over a year ago, a game that came out earlier this year, and a game that is stated to come out in the first half of 2018. On a side note, you can't logically say Spider-man is not coming out in the first half of 2018 and then expect Crackdown to not get delayed.

You know what else I am excited about? I'm excited for the all of the PS4 exclusives that came out earlier this year. I'm excited about the PS4 exclusives that will come out the first half of 2018, and I am excited about the PS4 exclusives that will get announced at PSX this year.

You know what I am not excited about? I'm not excited that the Xbox "exclusives" are 22 indie games having console launch exclusivity on the Xbox. I'm not excited that, according to Phil Spencer, new exclusives are still two to three years out.

I think Phil is doing a great job, don't get me wrong. This generation is the generation of rebuilding for the Xbox division. It started out crashing and burning, now they are doing everything they can to turn things around. In my opinion, they are succeeding. I don't agree with some of their 1X decisions but for the most part the Xbox division is doing a pretty dang good job. Unfortunately, the rebuilding stage is hardware, services, then games. Right now, they are finishing up working on hardware, they are killing it with services, and they are starting on games. Games will come in a few years.

I'm a simple man though, I want to play games now. That means, the PS4 is my main console for the foreseeable future.

I lol'ed at these two conversations:
Wombat: I don't like Zelda because of these gameplay related reasons.
Ship: You're doing it wrong
Ship: I don't like The Last Guardian because of these gameplay related reasons.
Thorbahn: You're doing it wrong
Great show and I appreciated the E3 responses during the convention. Regarding security, I've been to each of the US Star Wars conventions and this was the first year that they've used bag checks and body scanners. It slowed things down but was manageable. It's pretty surprising that E3 hasn't changed with the times.

Also, props to Ship for ID'ing the villain in the Spidey demo. Most writeups had no idea who it was.

Please NEVER include Thorbahn in the regular cagcast.

I'd to add that the way I see the difference between Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro. The PS4 Pro is an added GPU with some small CPU boost which to me is similar to SLI with 2 graphics card on a PC. SLI has always had less support then just having a more powerful PC graphics card. Hence, I think the Xbox One X will have better support for patches on already released games and scalability on games coming out since it's a full hardware refresh.

Also, play some Overwatch with me Cheapy, I'm Gold competitive been as high as platinum
