Is this a good time to Upgrade to PS4 Pro?

I have a 500 GB non-slim PS4.  It looks like Best Buy will give $120 for it.  I do have a 4k TV, but I am more into it for the potentially higher frame rates and performance increases.  Am I correct in assuming that Sony won't feel the need to offer any incentives on the PS4 pro with the One X's $499 starting point? 

I keep going back and fourth with myself about it.  On one hand I'm not sure how I feel about a hardware upgrade mid-generation.  On the other it should be nice to get a little extra out of games. 

I guess my question is still what do you guys out there think?  Is this a good time?  Should I take the $120 from Best Buy or wait for some deal to come along like increased trade in value? 

Depending on your location you would be able to get more from craigslist, ebay, or even amazon will give you more for your trade in. Craigslist you should be able to get around $200 for just the console. And probably the same with ebay before selling fees. Amazon the trade in is $122-$150 depending on the model/bundle. But those prices change every day.

But it all depends on personal opinion if you feel that spending close to $300 to upgrade is worth it.

I'm waiting. I want one but I think I'll hold out until the next version comes out. Gotta think that the power consumption will go down on the next build.


My main motivation is my free time to play. With two kids, my free time to game is limited. If I am gaming before they go to bed, it's on the Wii U. If I didn't have kids though, if already have it.

The X1X is a beast of a machine but it's run into a few bumps, mainly with questions about whether or not all games will actually be true 4K60 or not and of course... the line-up was kinda meh. 

I was waiting to see if the price on the PS4 Pro would drop after the X1X reveal but I don't see that happening. I've seen tons of deals on the PS4 Slim but can't think of any on the PS4 Pro, outside of Monoprice having it for $300 which I think has to be some kind of mistake. I'm not expecting any good deals on the Pro, maybe a bundle with Last of Us/Uncharted 4 for Black Friday but that's it. 

Has there been any PS4 Pro deals? Was there any on Black Friday last year? Can't remember. I want to get one, but I'm patient and waiting for some kind of deal.

Pro deal on Amazon Prime Day?  Probably too much to hope for.

I'm in the same boat that I have a PS4 and have recently purchased a 4K TV. A part of me begrudges the thought of changing out a perfectly good system for an incremental improvement, but at the same time one of the reasons I bought this TV was for the 4K.

A tough decision.

Well you definitely set yourself up for the PS5 whenever it comes out so you shouldn't feel too bad about buying the 4k TV without the PS4 Pro. Though, if you aren't straddled for cash, then the Pro is probably worth the upgrade. Good luck with the decision though.

Thanks for the comment. I am slightly interested in buying an XBOX One X if it ever came down to like $300 so I could play my 360 games and enjoy the 2 exclusives Microsoft has this generation. I'll let y'all know if I ever make a decision!
