I get you but technically it did cost you something. Would have to type way too much on here to explain.

Enjoy the game though. I got it last year and kids and I loved it.

Opportunity Cost?

She got $20 for free and spent $20 to get a game.  The $20 was limited to Steam.  So not like she could buy food with it or pay for the essentials.

Is the same opportunity cost lost if the original person just gave her the $20 game she wanted in the first place?

This 'sale' is REALLY bad. All games are priced about $10-$15 more than last year during this exact sale. Not to mention, retail stores are charging less for the exact same games. XBOX really disappointed this year.

I loved this sale. Wolf 2 for $30, Evil Within 2 for $30. Several other new games have great prices. What were you expecting? And of course physical games will have lower prices. Are you new to this?

Seriously, it is a XBone thing, as in how the public reacted to it, but I don't see how locking gameplay changes behind a RNG system was any innovation though (as I previously felt that's what Microsoft was thinking with the online centric device back when XB1 launched).

I don't really look back at the Xbone announcement as innovation. Sure, there were definitely some in there but they came with too many strings attached, and the whole package was so tone deaf to what their customers wanted that it was ridiculous. Forced Kinect that made the price $500 and daily online DRM check-ins.

Nothing is innovative about Battlefront 2 or its attempts to entice customers to buy lootboxes.

The main reason I may keep my BF 2 pre-order is the space combat. It’s phenomenal. I’ve been craving a game with something like it for years. CoD Infinite Warfare did a really good job at it in the campaign and wish they had added it to MP. I’m doubting Activison will revisit futuristic combat anytime soon with the response to WW2 being so positive.

I still miss X-wing vs. Tie Fighter on Windows 95. I still have my copy but ...

In essence it wasn't free because she gave up $20 she could have used to buy $20 worth of stuff.

Opportunity Cost- the loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen.

Not too much if anything jumps out at me this year.  I spent a bunch more last.

I think partly I have added enough to my backlog of games I REALLY want to play but just haven't been motivated to start over the last year.  Not just games that were dirt cheap and maybe I will some day play them but likely not.

I was interested in the Game Stop PowerPass thing and planned to sign up today but that is no more.

Might take what is left of my GS credit and pick up 2 of the following 3 games.  (I have a bit less then $50 credit).

Destiny 2 is $27 at GS I think was some statue I don't care about.  50/50 I will grab this actually.

More likely pick up Shadow of War and Wolfenstein 2 for $25 each at GS.  It is a short walk from a GS when visiting my parents on Thanksgiving.   Hopefully the line will not be too bad and they don't run out of these games.

But she did buy $20 in stuff.  She bought a $20 game.

Maybe if it was real money or a Visa/MC gift card I could see your point.  But it wasn't.  She was locked into buying some digital game somewhere.

Major Nelson's post is formatted like trash and even he doesn't know the 360 games, what gives?

But there are some season passes on sale.

If you already have Rise of the Tomb Raider, you can get the season pass for < $10 (sale price) and then it's = to the 20th anniversary edition.

I know not everyone takes advantage of game sharing, and for some people trading in discs is convenient and rewarding. I always end up sitting of a stack of games waiting for a good gamestop promo. For me, $40* for a new release that my brother, his kids, and I am interested in playing IS a good deal. Take 20% off from discounted credit, magnifique!

Speaking of which.. All you snobs complaining that BB or Walmart has the game $5 cheaper, so you have a regular supply of even 10% off gift cards? If you plan your purchases in advance at all, discounted xbox credit often brings digital sales in line with physical. Plus the advantages of game sharing and not switching discs.

*In for WolfII deluxe, South Park, and Dishonored collection. On the fence about NFS, ACO, and Bioshock.

So far this year I bought 135 games (and an additional one I got preordered) and I probably beat like 10 or so games total this year. So by now everytime I buy a game this plays in my head.

Yes! I haven’t played the endurance mode but the Baba Yaga DLC is really good and added about three hours for me.

Is Tomb Raider anniversary or legend that’s the prequel to Underworld?

This sale may not have had everything I wanted, but I was very happy to see Wolfenstein 2, The Evil Within 2 and NFS Payback at great prices ($30, $30 and $35.99). It’s only $5 more than what BB is charging on BF for the first two and $1 more for NFS. To have digital for a $5 or less “tax” is more than reasonable.

I honestly thought we’d see more around the $40 mark for those games.

So to say this is a “bad” sale is completely inaccurate to me, other than wishing there were some different games like Forza 7 in it.

See what you did Larry Hyrb!? You gave us bad deals and now the entire family is tearing itself apart. Brothers fighting brothers over what a girl spends money on....Randoms voicing their displeasure with sale prices....Shame and guilt over past purchases running rampant....soon we’ll be debating politics and sports again. Why Larry??? Why!???

Yeah. My logic tells me that "not getting it" is the premise, and hence justification, for an explanation. Otherwise you spend all your time explaining things to people who already get them.

Fable Anniversary is still showing up as $10, and I may finally give Rocket League a chance.

FINALLY. I hope it's not a mistake since I can't get it right now. I'm on my way to see Justice League. Will get back to you on how it is?
