and why would anybody play 4 before the first 3? did you watch Return of the Jedi before Star Wars too?
These days, it's not entirely feasible to play every entry in a series. Especially those franchises that are now in part 4 or 5 and had their previous releases on past consoles. With Uncharted, there's no excuse because they're all remastered, but maybe he didn't realize that they all featured the same protagonist. Like Indiana Jones (or maybe James Bond is a better example), it's not even necessary to see every entry that came before since they're all separate adventures. As opposed to Star Wars which forms one complete saga. But you can jump into Grand Theft Auto or Assassin's Creed at any point because they're only connected by name, theme and/or style (with few exceptions).
For example, I would recommend people play the past God of War games before playing the new release (also confusingly called "God of War") because they all center around Kratos's mythology. But you could jump into Far Cry 5 without playing any of the other games and it wouldn't really hinder you. There's tons more examples (from Call of Duty to Final Fantasy) where it doesn't really matter where you start. Movies should be followed in release order, that's not always true for games.
