Xbox One X: Thoughts have came to a conclusion...at least for now.

BigTime2Play

CAGiversary!
I have had the Xbox One X for about 2 weeks now and without going into a long review about specs and what have you, here is what I have noticed are key reasons for ME to own one:

1. Backwards Compatibility

Yes, OG Xbox and Xbox 360 games look and run better on Xbox One X - Ninja Gaiden Black looks REALLY good!

2. Exclusives

Halo 5 and Gears of War 4 run and look better on Xbox One X according to DF

The only multi-platform game I have ran to compare my PS4 Pro to the One X is Doom and yes, the Xbox One X runs the game slightly better with faster load times and a slightly smoother experience, however PS4 Pro with Boost Mode looks better over all.

I have been keeping a watch on Digital Foundry and hoping to see a comparison with other multiplat games but I think they've only done a handful so far.

RANT:
I suppose my hopes were way high for this system and, so far, I'm a little disappointed. I will be comparing other games soon such as The Witcher 3 and Resident Evil 6 (actually installing on both consoles as I'm typing this) and I will keep you all posted.

Ok so I have played the intro to Resident Evil 6 on both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.  Honestly, I had to do some major work in order to try and find if there were any differences between video and performance quality.  There were moments when the Xbox One X version looked slightly crisper - like during a cut scene when they show Leon trying to help Helena.  The Xbox One X version seems to be a little brighter in some cases but the PS4 Pro version gives details better in dark scenes - appearing to add a little more detail.

All in all, at least for Resident Evil 6, it's hit or miss.  I didn't even notice any difference as I continued playing as they both run and look very similar.

NOW, the claim that "All games are better on Xbox One X." should be taken with a grain of salt - could the games runs better?  Absolutely however the developers need to take time to re-tweak their games to allow for this to happen.  I was reminded that The Witcher 3 has not received it's Xbox One X patch yet so I'm going to hold off on that comparison until later.

To address my initial disappointment - I did have my hopes up too high for this console: it's not M$ fault, it was totally mine.  I was hoping the Xbox One X would bring me back to when I had my Xbox 360 to play most, if not all third party games, and PS3 for exclusives.   So far it's more like the PS2/OG Xbox era - whereas the OG Xbox was more powerful than the PS2, but by the time it came out, the PS2 had already churned out some good games and the OG Xbox had some catching up to do.

Am I satisfied with purchasing the Xbox One X with trade credit - YES....I am satisfied but I would be super stoked if, let's say, Rockstar was to make GTA V look and run better on the Xbox 1X, which would be a true testament to what this machine can do.

I will try to continue to keep this thread UPDATED

I have a question that will sound dumb ....

I can use an original XBOX or XBOX 360 disc with the X1X and play the game, correct?

I almost got one of these but ended up getting my first Sony PlayStation in years unless you count my old PS3 I got for BC PS2 games and my BR player. Got the Pro. I truly wanted to get the X as I think MS customer support is still better and their servers are generally superior to Sony's but there is simply more players with PS4s nowadays, at least in the games I play online. Getting tired of booting up some games at certain times of the day and have to wait for games when the PS4 has almost 10k more active players (again, in the games I play). I still own my regular One though and still play it since my gaming shit has been tied to MS for over 8 years now but going forward I might break off from MS simply because there are more players on PS4 than One.

Yes.

Congrats and good point! Also, most of the games I have that are multi-plat are on PS4

So I have been following Digital Foundry and they have done some comparison videos that show that some multi-plat games look and run better Xbox One if not run and look the same. Here’s the catch: for the most part DF zooms in super close to a part in a freeze frame to show how Xbox One X has the edge over PS4 Pro. There are some exceptions like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed Origins but for the most part, games look the same unless you slow to a pause and REALLY take a good look.

Very cool. I snagged Dragon Age: Origin Ultimate Edition for the 360 (game really held its value, guessing because of backward compatibility).

Any who. Long story short, for anyone wondering, yes, you can install all the DLC. Will just take a bit of effort.

Thanks again. Plan on beating DA:O for like the 5th time in the near future lol

Yes, I have not forgotten about DA:O EC! It’s still the next RPG on my list.

Honestly can’t wait to give it a shot. I just hope that it runs better than Dark Souls....yes Dark Souls runs crappy on the Xbox One X. It’s visually crisper and defined however the game suffers from a super choppy camera. I’m going to uninstall and re-install to see if that will remedy the issue.

Almost two months since I had the console and here is possibly my final update to this thread unless something truly groundbreaking happens:

This system has some potential. I recently watched this DF video:

https://youtu.be/h4WIoHd9V0U

The one game that had me sit back and turn on my X was Wolfenstein II. Watching the video in 4K I could tell, without DF zooming in, that there was definitely a difference. I also made a bad judgement call recently and purchased Wolfenstein II digitally on PS4 before watching this video.

I had to see for myself if there was truly a difference, after all, I think my television, a Samsung UN65KS8000, upscales some content to 4K. Even though DF claims that the Pro caps the resolution at 2560x1440, my television’s resolution was presenting at 3860x2160 which had me puzzled.

So I decided to gather up my Bing points, redeemed them for some Microsoft gcs and purchased Wolfenstein II for the X. I ran both at the same time switching and comparing the two. Television was displaying both at 4K but indeed there was a difference. I took a picture with my iPhone to compare hoping that it would be a good way to see the difference without switching back and forth. Here are the results:

PS4 Pro:

Xbox One X:

The X version definitely exceeds the PS4 Pro with this game.

I’m now looking more towards upcoming multi platform titles and not giving too much concern for titles that were previously released. I think in time, the Xbox One X will more-so be the go-to for upcoming multi-platform games.
