Final Fantasy XII $20 ($16 GCU) @ Best Buy

I didn't finish it back in PS2 era but after I got it for the PS4, I finished it this time! The fast forward feature changes everything. Love it! Lastly, one word: Seitengrat,

Hows the performance?
You can increase the playspeed to 2x or 4x which makes long fights way faster but a little more hectic to manage if you don't have good gambits setup. I was never frustrated at any load times, but I am not a person who really notices framerates unless things get really laggy and that only happens if there is a lot of stuff happening on screen at once which is rare.

The performance is top-notch - I played the game back on release this past July and absolutely loved every minute of it. Load times are pretty snappy, and the option of using FFx2 or FFx4 is really a QOL improvement over the original. For $16, it's a steal.

I got the steelbook edition on clearance from TRU for $30 a few weeks ago. But this price is mad nice fo da standard. now I just need to figure out wtf to do with the sealed ps2 copy I bought many moons ago.

is this game easy to get into?  I have never played any final fantasy games.  I have seen some videos and the managing system seems complex.

Yes. All of the main FF games are easy to get into, they’re fairly mainstream games. Well, FFXIV was overwhelming but the rest of them are real easy.

I'll gladly pay an extra $1.01 over the Target clearance price to stop having to go from store to store to see if "Limited" means "we ain't got none" every time.

so salty, picked up a gutted copy from gamestop for $25 and traded evil within 2 for it.  I loved that game

Also, if your store had any stock according to that link, it might not be the SteelBook version.
I will second this comment - Target merged their DCPI a while back, so this listing includes normal and steelbook editions. Knowing that this product has been going through clearance over the past few weeks, the steelbook editions have been on people's radar and I'm guessing that inventory on those is pretty low. If you happen to find one, congrats - just don't expect it at this late stage.

Go figure.  I just went out of my way to buy it on clearance for $15 at Target (standard version) before checking the boards and seeing this thread (and yes, every copy I saw at the Targets here were standard, not steelbook, and some had it for $24.98, others for $14.98).

I'm not a FF fan by any means but I keep hearing that XII is one of the must plays. And as a self described "core" gamer, I feel kinda obligated to at least check it out. The fast foward feature is very enticing as typical JRPGs get boring because of how slow everything is.

The question is: since I'm not in a huge rush to play it (on top of a huge backlog), am I better off just waiting for it to be like $15 (12 w/ GCU)? If that's gonna happen within like six months, it's worth waiting.

What does "core" gamer mean?

Also, this game has nowhere to go but down in price and it's not like Square printed a small number of copies.

IMO it's basically just another word for an enthusiast. Enthusiasts of any medium usually, at least, dabble in a wide variety of genres/types. So as an enthusiast, and as someone who has a low tolerance for JRPGs with a few amazing exceptions, this is one I feel I've missed
