Exactly how it sounds. They are getting rid of the Toys To Life section of their store, so all LEGO Dimensions and Amiibo are on clearance. It's online and in stores since last week.

I thought only SOME Amiibo were on clearance?  Maybe that changed...  Anyway, THIS is why we still need places like TRU because places like Target have such crappy selections.  Was always nice to have someplace like TRU to go to :(

Many Targets are shrinking their Gaming/Movie section in the coming weeks. I hope you all like buying your stuff digitally.

Yep. I haven't bought a game at Target since they stopped letting me stack cartwheel and PM.
Yep. That was pretty much the only way they were ever beating Best Buy with GCU. Without that, there's no reason to ever buy from anyone but Best Buy.

Other than clearance titles, only game I've bought since is Azure Striker on Switch. Even though I couldn't stack both, $20 was still the best price for it anywhere.

Discs aren't going anywhere soon. Target is just a bad place to shop for games unless you're stacking YMMV deals or YMMV clearance.
Not just games, though that's definitely started and the problems there are different (i.e. publishers not releasing all content on discs in disc or goty editions to discourage used game sales). Movies and music cds, the latter of which is indeed already almost gone, are farther along the extinction path.

No one here is saying discs are going away. Of course not. But prices for physical media will see sharp climbs over the next few years as purchasers become mostly collectors. I can already see some movie publishers going the route of releases like LRG. That's coming sooner than some think.

You know there is a workaround for that. Buy some other things and have your red card preloaded on cartwheel. Dont say anything about carthwheel or maybe act like its for the other items. (sometimes I have multiple cartwheel items in my app) When you scan in cartwheel after the price match, you get the PM, cartwheel, and 5% off for the red card instantly before the cashier can blink an eye.

This has worked for me a few times. The cashier just stood there stunned like she did something wrong when she saw the total. LOL

As a game addict and collector, all I got to say about digital releases is:

What kind of witchcraft is this?!? Who in the world needs this much sugar? I need this much sugar....

I have went more to Target the past 3 weeks than I have in the past year.   The Amiibo clearance and Gunvolt has been the driver of that.

Seeing digital make more inroads is very sad for me since I like collecting but considering games have updates all the time, doesn't that make physical obsolete by itself?  I was thinking about that the other day when I was going through my game collection and when I got to the WiiU section I realized games like Splatoon are completely different than from their launch.  Should I pop in all my games before the WiiU service is disconnected and update every game I have?  Decisions, decisions.

You realize toys r us is likely going away this year? The amount of retailers carrying discs is diminishing.

Target is re-doing its games/movies section and is reducing space for discs (and toys for life).

I should probably check my Target again for Amiibo's, but last time I looked they just had Animal Crossing Amiibo's.

I’ve looked at four of them in my area and it’s all animal crossing and daisy.
