Ebay question from a buyer

CAGiversary!
Just bought a Dreamcast game on eBay and it’s a 4 disc game. I received it today and discs 1 and 3 don’t work, disc 1 never gets to the title screen and disc 3 never gets past the Sega screen. The listing didn’t have any description but was listed as “good”.

I talked to the seller and he says all 4 discs worked when he checked them. They all went to the title screen etc. his listing has the generic “returns not accepted” thing.

Yup, I have tried cleaning with a micro fiber cloth etc. and to no avail. And I also tried this game on 3 different dreamcasts and it doesn’t work.

Where do I go from here? I’m sure he probably thinks I’m trying to scam him. And I actually do believe him when he said it worked for him. I would feel bad opening a case against him but what should I do? Eat the cost?

Open the case. You'll get a prepaid shipping label to return the item and he can get reimbursed for his fees.

On occasion ebay will tell you to keep the item and allow the seller to keep the money, but it's at their discretion.

Back on release of the Dreamcast, I attempted to play Blue Stinger and it wouldn't load up. I tried 3 different ones, then the fourth one finally played. They were all immaculate and brand new, so I assume that the Dreamcast had some sort of overly sensitive laser reader... Not trying to defend him, but that might be the case.

No, Blue Stinger(and a couple others like Sonic Adventure and Mortal Kombat Gold) had bad batches released when the Dreamcast launched. It's just no one know which one you get until you boot it up.

As for the OP's problem, I'm going to take a guess and say the game is Shenmue(since it's 4 discs). Which had no problems with it whatsoever. So just open a case for the auction.

And if it's Shenmue, TC is doubly better off returning it and buying the HD Remaster that's been announced.

If you believe in the seller, then try to clean the discs with Dr skip. It works on light scratches. You have up to 3 months to file a claim. And the seller does not get refunded on postage and also the prepaid return postage will be pay for by the seller. The seller will lose $6 on this return.

I'd say adjust your laser's strength and get that sucker to read or just burn new discs, but fuck that seller. Request a return with an open case.
