Just in case; Is there a good place to find offical PS3 controllers anymore?

CAGiversary!
I was just wondering after I checked on Amazon, where I bought my Dual Shock 3 for my PC. Since I have a PS3 (and a working controller for it), I figure eventually that'll break and I'll have to go hunting a new controller. (I don't have any two player games atm, so having only one is not a big deal. And no, I wouldn't use my PC DS3 on the PS3; that can cause some erm, wonky stuff like accidentally turning on the PS3 when ya don't mean to.)

Where's a good place to find used Dual Shock 3's that aren't fake/knockoffs? I noticed there's even a fake problem on Amazon now  . If there's no good place online, how can you tell you are looking at fake/knockoff? I'd rather know BEFORE I buy it if possible. ^^ No use wasting money..

I'd check on brickseek.

From what I could see, the controllers by themselves are no longer sold, unless you're lucky to find a store that just randomly has one.

So far a couple Target and Walmarts supposedly have these bundles in stock:

There's one Target close by me that supposedly has them for $99.99 everybody else clearanced them and sold out at $29.98

And 13% of Walmart stores supposedly still have this in stock as well: https://brickseek.com/walmart-inventory-checker?sku=38457128

If not, unless you're willing to buy some on ebay, I'd check local game stores.

Thanks Inverted. I wouldn't call today but I'll call a local mom and pop game store ironically called Gamers tomorrow (I don't do serious shopping on Sunday) and see what they say. As it is, I might want to see if there's anyone that repairs PS3 controllers; I think the battery in the one I have tends to drain when I"m not using it, and I'd like to keep it if at all possible. ^^ So it's something to really think about.

[Edit] Called them up this Monday when they opened. Yes they carry'em. I'd rather do business with that mom and pop and be able to hold and look at it before buying than online, where you are playing roulette. If anyone lives in the Atlanta, GA area, here they are. They're always worth a look; most of their common used games are priced pretty fairly and they are very nice/helpful to customers. And..their used DS3's are about 30 bucks right now, which I think is really fair.(They're also the only ones with a disk resurfacing machine in the area; so good thing.)

Just to confirm, you do know that DS4 controllers work with the PS3, too, right (both wired and wireless)? They have better grip angles and non-convex sticks, they're really much more comfortable, the only drawback is the shorter battery life, which isn't that big a deal IMHO...

Dreamweapon: I do know, but I'd rather keep the DS4 on my PS4 (I have one of those too) and the disadvantage of a DS4 is you CAN'T turn the PS3 off with it, or so I understand it. So I'd rather keep that as a last resort. (At least I still have a working DS3 on my PS3; I'm just thinking of future when it breaks. If the one I'm using on the PC breaks, I'll proly swap to a DS4 or a Xbox controller there, but that's the PC. I have more options on the PC.)

Also if you have said DS4 synced to your PS4, some funky things can happen, like you buying stuff on the PS4 you didn't mean to! No thanks there. Also I've never been bothered by the DS3, I actually find both DS3's and DS4's rather comfortable in their own ways. Hence, why I have one on my PC at the moment. ^^

Since they are no longer making PS3s, I really think I can't find new DS3's anymore easily, that's why I was asking about the used market. ^^

Also I bought This recently so I could charge my DS4/DS3 without plugging either into either console, so battery life isn't that huge a issue now for me. For the rest of you CAGs; it DOES work with a DS4 as well, tho it says DS3 charger.

And Doh; I wish I'd had your foresight. I didn't think about it when you still could get DS3's without worrying about knockoffs; now if you're looking at new ones, you might be looking at a frickin' knockoff. (Which is why I'm going to avoid online if I find I actually need a new-to-me DS3. Easier to tell if it's a fake if you can see/hold it I think.) I just don't trust knockoffs when it comes to console controllers.

Hi. I’m also looking for a ps3 controller and read that a ps4 controller works also? Does the ps4 controller have all the functions like the ps3 controller? Can u run the console on ,etc?
Any pros vs cons when using? I would like to know because would like to avoid knockoffs .

The Punisher; it does work BUT!

The PS4 controller does not have all the functions of a PS3 controller. Vibration, the PS button (if you want to shut down a game; it'll turn it ON but not take you back to the XMB or be able to turn it off from the controller) and Sixaxis functions do not work.

Sources: Gamespot, Reddit

I've also heard that if you have paired it with a PS4, funky things can happen, like you end up buying stuff from the PS Store. That was a while ago though, not sure they fixed it however.

Your best bet is go check out yard sales/thrift stores/flea markets/game shops that sell used games (including Gamestop) so you can actually LOOK at the controller and pick it up n'stuff, so you know it's a real one. Better used than a phony, in my mind.
