I usually avoid these types of iOS games like the plague but I had enough gold coins to get it for free and something about it really kindled my nostalgia of playing NES games in the 80s so I picked up Goblin Sword. Glad I did. It doesn't do much but what it does it does well, and I love finding secrets in the short levels. Good stuff.

Glad you are enjoying it.  There's a lot more depth to the game than the initial levels.  It gets more challenging finding everything and there are a bunch of things to find/unlock as well as various weapons which change how you play.  Plus all the achievements to go back and finish certain levels at a specific speed or to try and finish levels without doing certain things... it's good stuff.  I won't say it's the greatest platformer ever, but I found this much more enjoyable than a most of the retro inspired games today.

I love picross games. I'll have to see if that ever goes on sale.

Unfortunately, you just missed it, Picross Lord of Nazarick was on sale for $3 off for the past couple weeks.

Picross Lord of the Nazarick is kicking my butt, but I'm very much enjoying it. Breezed through the 5x5 and 10x10 puzzles, and then the first 15x15 took me 23 mins. The second 15x15 is going even slower. I don't have much Picross experience... probably need to watch some tutorial videos to help improve my skills.

Use the blue colored in-game guide (L1 to toggle, I think), which helps for the non-color puzzles. Once you start figuring it out, you can turn them off. The later color ones kick my ass. The game tips help for the megas when you get there, since there's no intro. I'm like 98% complete, and I will say there's not a single puzzle that requires guessing.

Same experience here.  It's okay so far.  Controls are solid.  Main things I dislike is listening to the same looping low-quality music track in every level and how the levels have basically become a false wall checking sim.

I've never payed attention to Picross games; I just knew that they were about "making pictures appear by filling boxes", but just read about it and how it plays out/techniques to solve it and holy sh*t! I love it! Being a Sudoku fan, I will surely give this genre a chance! If anybody can recommend Picross games as a starting point, I'll appreciate it.

I'd recommend ~~PixelPuzzle from Taito~~ Pixel Puzzle Collection from Konami on iOS and Android. It's free and if you are ad blocking, it has no ads. The puzzles are "historic" sprites from Taito's long gaming history.

I'd pay for a switch port, but honestly the phone is easier as it's always in my pocket.

Any chance you mean Pixel Puzzle Collection from Konami? I know that's been around/free. I've not seen anything by Taito.

Yeah, once I started paying attention to the blue colored guide, that helped speed things up a lot. For those that don't know, this blue guide lets you know which rows/columns currently have space(s) that are solvable. I don't use the other assists though, hint roulette or auto-correct. Finally beat the second 15x15 puzzle, took 29 minutes (and I wasted 29 minutes on it earlier before realizing I had made a mistake and had to start over).

It's hard playing the larger puzzles on a not so big tv with not so great vision ^^; Similarly though, playing 15x15 of the Konami Pixel Puzzle Collection on my phone is also a bit small. I guess laptop or tablet would be ideal for Picross.

Yeah. That's exactly what I mean. I was writing from memory and the name of the app (on my Android device) between meetings. I should have taken the 2 whole minutes to check. Sorry!

Thanks for the recommendation. Already put some time into it.

Waiting for a new Picross 3d since that was the first game to get me into the genre.

Im not sure if this has asked recently or not, the spyro switch game..... is it worth it to dowload now for $19.99 or wait for a physical release sale? I have heard that the game still requires a download like MK11 does. I haven't kept up with the price so i'm not sure on the price points.
I have never played Spyro, so i thought i would check it out.

Edit: tablet typos

It was $20 during Black Friday for what it's worth.

As someone who really likes Spyro, unless you have some kids to play it I would pass. Its biggest appeal is nostalgia, which you won't have because you haven't played it. It very much still feels and plays like an old Playstation game. I'd say I enjoy it as much as replaying Banjo Kazooie - super simplistic level design, fun charm, but overall not a very fulfilling experience.

Only the first world of the first game is on cart. You basically have to download the whole thing on Switch. By comparison, the PS4 ver has the entire first game on disc and some portion of the other two games, but still requires download for the rest of the latter two games.

I still love replaying Banjo Kazooie and think it holds up well. I didn't play much Spyro as a kid, but it does seem kind of bland. I still would like to pickup the trilogy some day if it hits $15.

New details on Animal Crossing: New Horizons from the Direct:

https://www.nintendo...g-new-horizons/

If you're wondering, they didn't say they were doing anything about the save situation other than offering an avenue to recover a save if your Switch is lost or broken.

I’m bored at work so it’s awfully tempting to watch that Direct but I don’t want to spoil anything about New Horizons. It will be a lot more fun to discover what’s new by playing the game itself.

Thanks Frisky!

If anyone is a fan of Smash TV, I recommend giving Galaxy Champions TV a look. It's definitely a love letter to Smash TV, but more cartoony and you're murdering thousands of aliens instead of people.

I suppose it's more humane that way.

I remember some people were pretty happy with OTTTD, might give that a shot.

Riddled Corpses EX though, loved the demo of it and replayed it far too much.  Might bite at this price though of course I wish it were 75% off... it was solid fun to play that demo.

I'm a big fan of Smash TV and I had a few dollars in my account so this was a perfect buy for $2.

Here's the archive of that stream of the new NES & SNES additions on Switch:

Found all of them to be better than I expected, but Eliminator Boat Duel was the biggest surprise. Some of the rubberband AI BS can be undone with rewind so you don't have to start over when you get a game over. Shadow of the Ninja wasn't as hard as I was expecting, but it's a neat mix of Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man. Twinbee's a solid cutesy shmup that can be sneaky hard if you're not paying enough attention to avoiding shots. Smash Tennis is a standard tennis game that is all right.

Eliminator Boat Duel is great if you like those rc pro am style racers. I own the game and the NES cart has a typo on the top label.

Giving my opinion of Goblin Sword after about 2 hours of playing yesterday. Honestly it feels very much like a mobile game (which I know it was) though the graphics are decent enough. The levels all play very quickly and you try to collect gems and treasures and try not to die to enemies. It's all basic in a way, but not terrible. Honestly it feels like a nice game to play now and then and do a few levels. You can unlock a lot of weapons, items and other collectibles. I'd just barely recommend it because the price is nice, but others may want it to be a bit cheaper. It's good though. I also got Aggelos, so I'll try that too soon enough.

Thanks Frisky!

If anyone is a fan of Smash TV, I recommend giving Galaxy Champions TV a look. It's definitely a love letter to Smash TV, but more cartoony and you're murdering thousands of aliens instead of people.

I suppose it's more humane that way.

Thanks for this recommendation!  That really scratches the itch.  Also the unlocking dash move really adds a fun new element.  Music is good too!

Oh, and upgrades to your character are permanent across plays.

Now I've got the twin-stick shooter bug again and I'm tempted to get Riddled Corpses EX for $5.
