Centipede Replicade 12" Mini Cab BF Deal $119 + Free US Shipping

CAGiversary!
This is a 12" Mini arcade cab by New Wave Toys and it was launched on KS last year. Well, it's finally shipping to KS backers, and is having a 10% discount for launch week. Use code LAUNCHWEEK10 at check out for 10% off, and shipping is free within the US(good thru Sunday 9/23).

Full retail is $160, but I got mine for $90 during KS, but I haven't received it yet, so can't report on quality(good reviews so far). BB has it up for pre-order, and other major retailers are due to carry it(Amazon, etc), so you may do better on a discount by other means, or retailer credits.

This is officially licensed by Atari, with other official cabs coming soon, cab #2 is Tempest, and #3 is Street Fighter CE(Capcom). Let the overpriced discussion begin........LOL

I'm sorry, but yeah...it is.

The fact that it has the trakball is cool but with everything being so tiny I imagine it's really hard to comfortably control the gameplay. And if SF2 is on the horizon, this will be a big problem when it comes to trying to pull off the special moves on those tiny buttons and joystick.

Yeah, I was on the fence at $90, and I just said WTF, and said why not. At $160, I would probably only get the games I really, really like, but even then........yeah. LOL The SF2 actually has this little cable device, that will act as a second controller for 2 players, but yeah, I can't see that being any fun, but maybe in a pinch? I think that may have just been an "in" for them with a different developer, to broaden their horizons, but I really don't see SF2 CE being that great of a choice.

There's probably a lot of other retro games that would be better and cooler, but as for unique controls, SF2 is for sure on the top of the list, especially for something as small as this. So if offering unique stuff because they can is the business model, they are well on their way, no question about that.

Got my Centipede machine in the mail today (took part in the Kickstarter).

As someone who grew up playing this game (in particular, the one that was at a local seafood restaurant that my family went to all the time in the 1980's), it's definitely impressive, with me and my parents finding it cool.

As for the other machines:

Tempest - Wait and see, as I didn't take part in that Kickstarter (tight on money at that time), but do have some interest in it.

Street Fighter 2 - Pass (would prefer a simpler joystick-based game here).

Ugh. Looks like too much of a hassle to play.

Might be good for $25. MAX.
You're insane; due to the quality workmanship, it's totally worth $49.99 MSRP...then wait for it to clearance to $19.97 before buying.

Oh, and DEFINITELY a hassle to play. in the video he's pretty much shaking the entire unit whenever he has to push the button; most likely why he just seems to hold it down most of the time, which no true gamer would do at the arcade. Snipe shots and button mashing is the only way to go on a game like Centipede.

These retro mini consoles & games are all starting to look like a Saturday Night Live skit from the 80's.

I'm kinda hoping the Arcade1UP cabinets make it into retail stores and eventually get clearanced, I'd definitely bite at half off

The arcade1up cabinets would be amazing for $150. They're doing this right: multiple games slightly shrunk down but still something you'd think came out of a real arcade, not FAO Schwarz or a Sharper Image catalog.

Well, was looking forward to trying mine out today, but the post man put it in the lock box, and the keys not working. I'm pretty sure the box probably barely fit, so the lock is pressed against the box, and won't turn. So I'll have to leave a note in my box for tomorrow, and hope he can read, and brings me my package in exchange for the key. So hopefully I can report back soon in regards to likes or dislikes for Centipede Replicade.

After how much alcohol are we talking?

Sold out at Best Buy and Amazon, mIght actually be limited to 5000 units.
Amazon will actually still let you place an order, as they are just out of stock. BB did in fact sell out, as they had inventory when I first started this thread, and now they seem to be all gone. Many places are supposed to carry this, and I can't see 5000 selling out super fast, especially at full retail, but no telling how many sold originally through KS, so qty's could be on the "limited" side after all.

Well, sorry for reporting back after the discount period is over, but I was busy over the weekend, and just finally got around to checking this out. Plus I figured, there was enough reviews and videos out there showing what this was about, so anyone could make an informed buying decision with a little effort.

I must say, this is damn nice, and about 30 years over due. LOL This is what I dreamed of as a child, when Coleco offered their tabletop line-up of games back in the early 80's. Everything is so detailed, even down to the mini tokens they include to add credits. Sadly, I don't see anyone setting any world records on this thing due to the size, but it is more than functional. I don't know that these fine details will be appreciated by the masses, but I think this hit the mark and then some. My son probably wouldn't see much difference between this, and the little myarcade cabs that are at Walmart for 15-20 bucks. If anyone grew up playing Centipede in the arcades, you'll feel right at home on this replicade.

Now, on to the price, at $160 I don't know if I can recommend this to anyone but the most diehard of collectors, but mine was around $100 through KS, so I'm not complaining. I think $100 should really be the top of the line on price, as this is half of what those new mini full size cabs cost at $300. And while those I believe have 4 games, it is a full type arcade experience(although way smaller). This is a novelty at best, but damn it's so  fuck ing cool, I really can't get over how amazing this is. I'm really looking forward to Tempest now, although I do own a full size coin-op for that one(which is in storage in my garage at the moment). My biggest issue with any forms of Tempest, are the vector graphics, and without the proper monitor, most options fall way short(that's why I own a machine). So after seeing Centipede, I'm more hopeful on future projects, but they are for sure going to have to pick the right games, as not everything is going to be good in this form.

I would love to see Frogger, as that would be a very playable game, on top of being very functional at this size. I really don't see that Street Fighter 2 being playable or even enjoyable, due to the size, but there are many games that would work great at this size. Ms Pac-Man would be another really nice offering. Well, anyway, to close, I really do like this a lot and while I don't think I may have bought this at $160. I will say that if I had, I would not have been disappointed, as this thing is just what it should have been, with no corners cut.

EDIT: It looks like the 10% discount was extended 1 more week to the 30th, so still active.

Now thru Monday the 26th, there is a BF deal of $119 + Free Shipping when using code "BLACKFRIDAY119" at checkout. This is almost exactly what I paid for mine when it was first offered on KS, so this is as probably as good as it's going to get deal wise.
