I assume other gcu accounts that have expired or will have seen this. I just wanted to share in case someone is ending soon like mine and you might hold off on buying something till you get it.

FYI it would let me stack the coupon with yet to expire gcu discount. (Failed on preorder though)

Same for me. That said, I'm anticipating they'll just yank the benefits at some point before that.
I could see them pulling GCU from in January or February (new fiscal year) and mailing everyone a check for how long they had left.

With that said my GCU expires on Oct 30th and I still haven’t received my 25% off a video game coupon code. When should I receive it. I plan on using it on Super Smash Bros.

My GCU is supposed to expire at the end of this month but I haven't seen this coupon pop up yet.  When in relation to your end date do they send this out to you?

If they did that, they wouldn't be mailing any checks. They would probably just dole out points to people. I've got a feeling though it is just easier to let people expire naturally and avoid any PR or other complications. At least for the two years after the date they cancelled it, that covers everyone that bought it without stacking years. I could see them cutting people off after that, because the number of people with more than one period is likely very low and can probably be handled on a case by case basis.

The only reason I said a check is they could have it as part of a letter that said something along the lines if you cash/deposit the check you can’t sue, join a class class action lawsuit, or create a class action lawsuit.

Well, you can sue but it technically wouldn't go anywhere due to the terms they laid out long ago. But it would cost money to defend it and cause some bad PR, so they will do what they can to avoid that. If they do end up drawing a line I think they would do it when the number of aggrieved parties is minimized. People that bought in right before they cancelled it would have the strongest case and be the most numerous as it was being actively sold. People that stacked up years and years would be much less. So in April 2020, everyone that bought in regularly will expire and that would be a much better time to cancel and cash out people with stacked years. Probably with points or maybe a gift card as compensation to ensure you spend that money at Best Buy. I'm sure someone will try to sue though.

This is cool. My GCU is expiring next month so I should get this soon I can get that sweet Best Buy discount one last time with an additional 5% off. Still going to primarily buy games at Gamestop now though since it is less than 5 minutes from my house.

Im sure you can after it releases. AssOdyssey new release gets taken down to $38 after tax. So when red dead releases I’m sure the gcu and coupon will work.
The coupon specifically excludes RDR2. It's not just because it isn't out yet.

You aren't even guaranteed to get this coupon either.

As a reminder/warning, if your GCU is expiring and you’re planning to lock in a bunch of preorders at GCU price - do not wait until the last few days. My GCU stopped working 2-3 days early online, and all customer service or the dudes running the forums would give me was a “sorry, nothing we can do”

I had better luck than you. I placed my last order Saturday night (with GCU supposed to be valid “through” the next day). And despite the discount showing up in my cart that morning, it was gone when I went to check out. So I placed the order and then used their chat. The rep was able to confirm my GCU was still showing as active, despite the discount not working. Eventually he credits me back the difference for the missing 20% (+tax).

So YMMV, but hopefully this helps someone else in the same boat. BTW, my 25% coupon arrived 5 days before my expiration date. But the odd thing is that the “Offer Valid” dates keep changing; when I just pulled it up, it now shows 10/23-4/23. So who knows when it will really be good for (my guess is the original date it was sent to me).

That’s basically what they told me after the fact - if I had gone ahead and placed an order at full price, they could’ve helped me. But since it was after my expiration date, it was too late. Funny that they never mentioned that as an option when I first contacted them when my GCU should’ve still been active.

You also need to keep in mind what form of payment your are using. I only had one of my preorders come out before someone tried to use my card across town and now all the rest of the orders are going to go full price with a payment update.

Might be best to prepay with PayPal if you can swing it, especially if it is a far off release.

Mine expires tomorrow. I placed an order without any issues today and GCU applied. Planning on just getting all of the items with the $10 rewards certificate.

Sorry to bring back this old topic but I just got the email for my expiring GCU and tried using the code on something but it says its already been used, I just got the code today and have not used it, is it maybe possible is not active yet or maybe a Best Buy mistake recycling old codes? anyway just wanted to check if anyone had run into the same issue

it Says on the top of the coupon when it’s valid from.

Mine expired in September and I never got an email/coupon.  I'm gonna try calling their Customer Service, but since its been a couple months I doubt they'll get me one...but who knows I guess.  Kinda annoying, I was a GCU member for like 2 or 3 years.

My email came on October 31st and my GCU expires on November 5th. Used it to preorder RE2 Deluxe Edition for $44.68

The email says "Thank you, Fat Pigeon. Save 25% on the game of your choice"

Anyone get a coupon recently? Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I know a few people mentioned that their GCU will be expiring before the end of the year.

My GCU ended in April. I contacted BB in September to see why I didn’t get this coupon... because not everyone gets it.

GCU was the most epic video game program ever devised!        I was a member from day 1 !     ashame BB ended it.

Just checked my status and I still have it until November 1st of next year.  It will be a sad day when it finally expires.

I actually just got this coupon yesterday. It looks like my gcu is still active but probably not for long

Curious, how many of you GCU members trade in to Best Buy? I looked up some trade values and they aren't totally terrible.

I see all these Best Buy / Target deals (B1G1, 50%, etc) and never bother since regardless of the discount that's still money out of pocket...

I used to do it a lot more and certainly could look at doing it again with some of the games that have come up on PS Plus, just to get some store credit... but haven't done it in a year or two.

I have GCU until April 10 2022
Holy fuck, how? I forget the details, was there any heads up? I kinda remember they just pulled the plug one day, but it was so long ago and I probably blocked out the details to avoid unnecessary emotional trauma. Or did you just decide to buy like 10 years just cuz? I guess realistically with how cheap it was, that wouldn't have even been that much up front. Damn do I wish I hadn't been in my poor college phase at the time, was skating buy a year at a time.

the year before they cut off the GCU i had gotten 2 GCU cards a gifts i was able to stack them with my GCU that i already had

My GCU got extended by accident. I bought a game and GCU at the same time. I returned the game and the cashier tried to return everything, including my GCU membership. The GCU membership was non-refundable so for some reason the system added 2 years to my membership. I held onto the card as a souvenir.
