Knowing 360 DLC will still work on the next console that'll be around for another 8-10 years makes it way easier to justify IMHO.
Speaking of, I'm getting serious Mass Effect vibes from The Outer Worlds. I highly recommend playing it with companions. You can recruit about 5-6 of them early in the game (very similar to the squad selection screen in ME) and they all have unique abilities and stat bonuses when present. They also banter with one another and have unique dialogue for each member of the squad. Plus, unique quests that build relationships.
I never wanted companions in Fallout 3 because the feeling of isolation was part of the vibe in that game, but TOW really feels like a hybrid between both franchises. The smaller, more focused worlds also feel more like Mass Effect since it's not a completely open world.
I haven't made it to the companion section yet (I know it's early in game, but I also went off on tangential side missions RIGHT before Edgewater), but how often are they working on their "calibrations"?
